2500 fps it's about 6" the Barnes doesn't have a very good bc 6" drop at 200? I see you shoot the 250 sst sabotless very well. The 250sst have a better bc? And shooting sabotless, do you need to do anything to the bullet first?

The 250 SST doesn't have much better. I shoot sabotless because I love to shoot and during the summer it's almost impossible to shoot sabots. You have to wait 15 minutes to 30 minutes between shots with sabots with sabotless load and shoot.
My optima is pretty good for what it is your plat form should be better. I just switched to a McRem and gave my optima to my boy. Sabotless is the only way to go however with sabots you'll be shooting as soon as you get your barrel back from Slufoot. With sabotless you'll have to size your bullets down to fit your barrel and you will have to buy a swing loc die which run $155- $180. Depending on smooth die or full form.
I recommend sabots to get you started learn how to make up loads then switch to sabotless. Then you can get into higher BC bullets like match hunters and Luke's 310 AP bullets.
What distance do you plan on shooting? 195 Barnes and the 200 SST will get you to 400 yards but the wind plays havoc on them which is why the heaver higher BC bullets sabotless is the way to go also.
Keep asking questions and check out the smokeless section there is a ton of info there also. Good luck

Just ordered my plug!! Booyaah!! Ball is starting to roll. Tomorrow I man up and order a barrel. Then off to slufoot and hope to have the snow gone and nice weather when I get it back so I can let it rip. Now I'm looking into buying optics. I'm a diehard leupold man. What's the expected bullet drop with a 100 yard zero shooting 195 barns? I know it depends on recipe Or you can order a bulburry /pacnor conversion and wait 20 weeks....Another member is going that route ON the smokeless board right now....Since you both are going encore platform route, it would be interesting to compare the two different builds and pro's and cons of each .....A reality show on Doug's...Imagine that,lol......

Icalled bullberry on Thursday. 4-5 months at the earliest, and about $600 clams. Too much cash on my first build. I really want to get a bullberry but maybe after we compare. I'm going with the bergara 24" and I hope to be shooting by the end of the month.

What he doesn't know is how much money he'll be spending in less than 2 years time on another build and another and another and another.

In the next few weeks I'll get some range pics posted and see if it meets your approval. I wouldn't worry about approval. This site is awesome and has lots of great info. I'm excited to see your results just remember to take your time and if your using sabots to begin with wait 15-30 minutes between shots. Have you decided on a scope? I just picked this one up and I really like it! www.nikonsportoptics.com/en/Nikon-Products/Riflescopes/6754/PROSTAFF-5-3.5-14x40-Custom-XR-Turret.htmlNot sure what your looking for in a smokeless but I'm getting into long range with mine.

Got my barrel today!! Monday I pick up the gun I won from ducks unlimited. I might sell that to buy the scope. I'm looking at the Nikon and a vortex. It's hard for me to pull away from my leupolds, you guys have been right so far so Nikon might be the one for me.

Once I received my Nikon I compared it to the vortex and was surprised how much brighter the Nikon was to the vortex. The Nikon (40mm) vs the vortex (44mm) was better. Now with that said the vortex is the cheapest model they sell if you go up to the diamond or viper I'm not sure if they would be better. If you go with Vortex get 30mm tube stay away from the 1" tube they won't be able to handle recoil.
The Nikon omega is a great scope and if you get the bdc reticle you can use the spot on app and it will give you hold over if you know all the info on your bullet and speed along with the weather.
Good luck your journey had only just begun!

Scopes are such a hard choice any more. I'll for sure look at the ones you have suggested. I have couple 3-9 leupolds sitting in my gun cabinet that I'm not using. I think I'll just mount one of those for now and see what I'm able to do with the completed rifle first then look at turret adjustable scopes. I'm starting to mess around with the turrets on two of more of ther rifles and it fairly easy as long as you put in the time. The farthest shot hunting I have is 300-350 on deer. Even if I had a farther shot then that and I could make that shot, I wouldn't even take it I don't think. Getting on the far edge of unsportsmanlike. But that's me.

I'm not familiar with Leopold however from what I've read you can order custom turrets for almost all their scopes.
What are your plans for loads and bullets?

I have no real plan yet for powder, sabot, or bullets. I have read few things and am leaning towards sabots for sure. I'm open to suggestions. 1 recipe was light blue harvest sabot with 200sst and 58gr h4198. I think that's what it was

With the possible cold weather in Illinois, I would also look at a duplex load. I am in Indiana and have went duplex with 10/48 of 4759/4198 seems to be a good start for most of the encore and begera barrels. I went with a Leupold VX3 4-14 x 40 CDS, after getting it I think a 3.5-10 would have been a better choice but am definitely not under powered on a scope. Like you, I couldn't decide so I stuck with what I have always loved.... A Leupold!

Know the topic of recoil was brought to my attention. How bad is the recoil?

Feels less than a 20ga that my nephew uses. I do have a limbsaver pad but it is very reasonable.

Well hell less than a 20ga is nothing. The good news is a buddy of mine has ordered a cva elite stalker and wants to build a smokeless to. So I'm glad I have someone to learn with on this journey. I have another rookie question. How long do these vent liners last? Is there another option then using vent liners?

Send your plug to fishhawk and get a tungsten bushing installed. With the loads your talking about it will last you a long time.

Get some torch tip cleaners or a wire gauge set. Your new vents will measure .031 and usually they are discarded at .036 or so. Watch for pressure signs on your primer and loss of accuracy then measure that vent and replace just before that measurement from there on. You can have the bushing installed at any time I believe it's around $55 the first bushing including install and then $31 if you ever need a new bushing. With sabots I would guess you'll get 450+ shots per bushing.

Oh wow. That's a lot of shooting I think. I'll have to look into that more when the time comes.
