RE: Mule Ear Lock: Some time ago, i was searching for info on mule ear locks as I am going to make one for a Southern Poor Boy I am putting together. There was a post under that subject that stated "mule ear locks didn't have a half-cock. " Well, that is half true. The one offered by Pioneer Arms indeed doesn't (Why??) But ALL the old ones I have examined have a very prominent and working half-cock notch in the sear engaging part of the sidehammer. Several also have a horizontal swinging "fly" to allow use with a double-set trigger. Some even have a sear link mechanism that allows the use of a conventional double-set trigger with the side-moving sear. There's lots of variations on that theme out there. I'll be making my own in the coming months. Is anyone interested ? I'll take photos...
