It was a tough one in nebraska this year. Deer numbers were down dramatically, and the weather wasnt exactly what you would call ideal for deer hunting. The lack of deer forced me out of my comfort zone, as the places I used to hunt looked like ghost towns after the EPA shuts down a mine. I managaed to see a FEW deer, but I'm a firm beleiver in not shooting anything less than a 3 year old. I ended up salt and peppering my tag this year. But that doesnt hold true for my remington... one of the better weekends(of course I was at a get together with my girl friends family on the other side of the state) my dad calls on saturday night and wants to try out my muzzleloader. So I tell him all the basics... dont double charge, put a wad under the bullet, make sure its knurled etc. He has shot muzzleloaders all his life so it was nothing new. I wished him good luck and hung up the phone. About 7 a.m. the phone rings and I could tell he was a little frustrated. The gun didnt go off. He thought the flashhole had become plugged then it dawned on me. The guns been loaded since December 1 bouncing in the truck on my many excursions. Push the ramrod down and pack it I said. He did it and about 10 seconds later I hear it go bang. So we got that squared away and hung up again. About an hour later I get another call. What now I thought. He said he just dropped a monster muley and I was going to have to get a new gun, as mine somehow became his that day. He shot it at 230 yards from a mcgowan 45 with 73.5 grains rl7 under a barnes 250 xpb. Never took a step. The exit wound was so detailed you could actually see the petals from the hollow point!
