Anybody shooting one of these for a long range deer rifle? I picked up a Savage 111 and have it bedded in a Boyds stock. It came with some reloads Berger 130's over 49 grains of R19. Any "pet" loads using 120's or 140's I have quite a few different bullets and powders to choose from.

I met a guy wolf hunting in the U.P. of MI this Nov. His gun of choice was an upper end custom in 6.5 - 284 with a Nightforce scope. It was a very nice setup & he had longer bullets loaded, sadly he didn't get a shot.
My favorite deer rifle is an A-Bolt 'Micro-Medallion' in 284 Win, so handy to carry. I got a nice 8 ptr with it in the U.P. this year, worked great. Those bench rest guys should have a bunch of loads for your rifle, kinda rare for most of us.

Hello Ittac,
I shoot 130 grn berger vld's over 50 grns of R-17, Fed 210 primers, seated just touching the lands, CBTO 2.445 at just under 2975 fps. Very accurate sub half moa and an excellent deer dropper. Good out to 850 or so but the energy is falling off quite a bit. The 130 berger vld's are old match bullets I had before the berger hunting craze and they just explode the insides of a deer.
Hope this helps,
Mike

Since posting this I have taken 2 deer with the load I had posted and I must say that the Berger VLD hunting bullets really live up to their reputation. I have been working on a 140 grain load and a couple have some real potential at this point.

A small gun shop where I live closed down a while back and they have some 6.5-.264 bullets that I could get at a decent price. I think they are nosler partitions and hornadys in 140gr. If interested I will see what they want for them if anyone is interested, send me a PM. Ill look and see exactly what is available and how much they want for them.
