Yesterday I had a little bit of time to shoot. I unloaded the 3 MLers I had left loaded and this is discussed elsewhere on this board. Also, I put the 50MM W.E.scope on my sporter Kevin Rayhill 223. I had to be back in only a few minutes so everything was rushed. I "sighted" in the 223 with 4 shots: 1 shot from boresighting by looking thru the barrel and adjusting the scope to that. Then 1 adjustment shot, and then 2 confirming shots(this barrel has >7000 shots thru it!!). These targets were at 100yds. Then I shot my left loaded 40 cal and it hit 1" high(the hit is 4" above bullseye - sighted in for 3" hi) as previously discussed and then I quickly tested 3 loads: 10/75 VV-110/H-4350, 14 VV-110/75 H-4350, and 11 4759/75H-4350. I was after just ballpark velocities. I think 2900'/sec is easily doable. Note that these loads are very sensitive to slight changes in the amt of primer powder. The aimpoint is the lower tgt's bullseye which is 3.8" below the 1st hit. Except for the 1 shot, the hits climbed with the velocity increase.

I am really liking those speeds-
I feel like we're playing "powder leap-frog".
I've got plenty of the next contestant, so I'll try to get away Thursday.
Do you think the 110 is more consistent than the 4759? Or does it matter? I'm only shooting the 4759 'cause I have it on hand. If the consensus is that 110 is better, then some shopping is on tap-

SW,
That's fast! Very nice. What about 3000 fps with a 195 gr Barnes? Doable?

3100'/sec recoil wasn't bad.
The Barnes should shoot about the same as the SST.
I wouldn't go to a lot of trouble for the VV-110. I think 4759 should work very well. Look at the speeds of the 2 4759 primer'd loads.
2900'/sec is easily doable and should be plenty accurate w/o hi pressure.
RL-22 and H-4831 or more H-4350 or RL-19 with less primer might well yield a practical 3000+ load.
I think comparing the accuracies of the various proven loads vs these fast loads will be interesting.

That is fast, do any of the bullets stand up or do they act like the .223 with a 50 gr bullet.

That is fast, do any of the bullets stand up or do they act like the .223 with a 50 gr bullet. Note that I shoot a 223 with a 40g bullet - hows that for standing up on a coyote. So far I have only shot paper with a 200 going 2890'/sec. I have shot deer at 35 yards with a 2670 load. No problem.
