This morning this goat fell to the 6.5-30 AKA 6.5 BRM. Load was 120g Ballistic Tip, 37.5g H4350. Rifle is EABCO model 97D standard. Spotted them from the county road, and drove on by pretending i didn't see them, but it seemed they were on the move. Parked the truck out of sight, and walked kinda away from them, and then toward to where i guessed they were. Figured they would be long gone before i arrived, but was very careful as i approached. Using my binocular, i searched often as i viewed different horizons. Saw them through the brush, and crept closer. Left the binocular and cap behind, and crawled on my belly closer. They were bedded down, and the buck was facing me. My shot was clear, and steady on the bipod. Guessed the range at 100 yard, and made a good shot. The bunch all ran off but him. Then he got up and tried to walk away on a broken leg, but then just stood. Shot him again, and he fell down. Gathered my gear, but for kicks i ranged the shot. Oops, it was 155 yard. As i walked toward him, he saw me, and looked to me like he was wanting to get up. Set the bipod up, and from prone, shot him after setting the cds dial for 140 yard. He expired.

I'm from the east so I don't know what a good, great antler size is for those goats. Is this a big one or average?

Don't know where your hunting . It does look like a very good public land goat to me. Any thing over 15" is very good. As small as an antelope is there very tuff and hard to put down. I've seen three of there four lags shot out and they still out run a guy....

I'm from the east so I don't know what a good, great antler size is for those goats. Is this a big one or average? Size wise, this one is average. It has horns 13 2/8" long; today it total scored at about 71 6/8". However, it is very symmetrical, the subtraction was only 3/8". Beauty wise it seems exceptional to me. The tips are ivory, are nicely shaped, and point right at each other. The prongs start at a nice height, not too high, nor too low. The prongs also have a nice shape to them; they look fine and sharp.

Don't know where your hunting........... Am hunting in Western South Dakota, kinda down by Nebraska-Wyoming. When we lived in Montana, we hunted around Highwood, Big Sandy, Winnett, Roy, Ingomar, Alzada, Augusta, and maybe others. Hunting pronghorn up by the elk game range was kinda interesting and fun. Seemed to me them Montana goats have a little larger horns, but perhaps not.

No a 13" is very normal for public land. As far as longer horns , I don't think so. Lucky to have any left, 3 year ago we had a MONSTER winter and Had Huge die offs all over the east part of the state. Then the last two years Blue tung has hit them HARD. White tails too, It's tuff being an antelope out there... I did get a tag for North of the river By the C.M.R. this year.

Congrats on a nice animal. Have only seen the Pronghorn in the wild moving gracefully across the prairies in Alberta. Always wondered what it would be like to harvest one. Thanks for the share.

What a cool speed goat congrats. I have only seen them a couple of times and probably will never get to hunt one.

That is a very pretty animal and I don't care how many "inches" of horn it has. Congratulations.
