Anyone planning an archery hunt for deer/elk in Montana on labor day weekend better check the regs... It doesn't open till Sept 7th.this year. Can't remember that before.? How many people will screw that up ?

Regs and seasons periodically change and one has to check them each year to keep compliant with the coming season.
Remember one goose season there was confusing as to the actual time frame. The Ont. Hunting Regs used to list the seasons as well as the Migratory Bird Regs because MNR Officers do any of the enforcement. That one season the time frame of dates didn’t coincide with the other. It seems the Federal Government made some last minute changes and didn’t inform the Provincial Government. From that point on the Provincial Regs no longer listed any migratory bird seasons.
During this time if you were found to be hunting outside the Federal Season but inside the Provincial time frame listed you were just asked to stop hunting, take your possession home and wait for the Federal designated season. MNR was busy for a week doing damage control but not laying any charges that I’m aware of.
Having read both Regs and knowing a publication mistake was made a simple phone call clarified what happened. As they say “When in doubt, check it out”.
