I believe the 250 gr. xtp was designed for 45 pistol velocities. When fps increase it may be better going to 300gr. I shot a buck last year 175yds with the 250's broadside and had a complete pass thru. But my starting velocity was around 2200fps. But with a 300gr. it has a higher sectional density, thus IMO fragmentation will be delayed some giving the bullet enough weight to reach the vitals on extreme angles. As for solids, I believe the non-expanding ones would leave little or no blood trail and if you hunt in heavy cover, recovery of game maybe difficult unless you hit alot of bone. I think the expanding ones are OK. IMO-Buddy
