Recently I discovered play in my primer retainer on my bolt. That play (inward and outward) was measured at roughly .015”. Just wondering if this is normal or is something developing here as I’ve never really noticed this before?

Ed, I'm not sure I understand what you're describing. Do you mean you can wiggle the primer in the rigid holder? If that's it, yes, it's normal. If it moves too much, though, the primer can fail to engage the BP and the bolt won't close. The quick remedy for that is to chamfer the primer end of the BP with a 3/8" bit. You could, of course, try a different primer if you want to.

The primer carrier on the end of the bolt must have some play when the primer is inserted. Otherwise the primer would have to be in perfect alignment with the primer opening in the breechplug or it wouldn't enter the opening. This little bit of play is normal and allows the primer to self-align with the breechplug as you close the bolt. KerryB

Kerry
Thanks for the reply and putting my mind at ease. Funny I never noticed this before in all the time I have owned my 10ML-II.
