This past Sat. we managed to boat 182 gills for a total of 362 for 3 days. That equates to 19 lbs of fillets! We like to eat fish during the winter months... ;D

Thats a pretty good haul Rick. I was doing good before I had to go under the knife but hope to get out there soon. My standby 'gill rig is a small drop shot rig with a float and a golden grub. Whats yours?

Dwight we use a product called the Trout magnet and it will out fish live bait 10-1. You have to see it to believe it.

My favorite gill lure is Renosky Jig Minnow in 1/8 oz. in shiner or perch. It is best gill lure I've ever used. Sometimes dress hook with a tiny piece of fish skin, piece of meal worm or or piece of power bait, they do not hesitate to suck the lure down. All four seasons it is the best I've found. As for eating gills, well I'd rather catch a mess of small catfish or bullheads to eat, most of my gills go to the trapping bait route unless they are really big. 10 ga

For early season gills I use a spin casting float with 3 ft leader, a black sinking fly tipped with Berkley Power Maggots. Most of the time the gills hit it shorty after it hits the water. Mike
