Im going to do a smokeless build on a rem 700 ML action. Where can I have all of this done ? I would like to shoot this build sabotless and also with saboted loads. I know a lot of people on this board have done this. Im going with 45 cal. so any advice on where to have this build done would be a great help. If possible I would like to have all the work done by one person.

Your up in Canada right? If so you have to watch shipping barrels across the border.

I really like those Hankins custom muzzleloaders too but the price is up there. I think he has the slickest rig going. Maybe one day Ill treat myself to a nice gift and buy one

Did you see all the buildings out behind the jugs he is shooting at in that video?!!

His beech plug, primer carriers and video is what sold me. Notice how easy his gun is to load and how accurate its. That proves mine n others about bullet obturation with an easy loading bullet.

Oneshotike can you take a pic of your breech plug and what the primer goes in I would love to see what used.

The gun shoots pretty good, BUT how many noticed the unsafe primer loading with the gun pointed up in the air every time he closed the bolt so the primer stayed in the bolt face...

Were it he was as good at making a promo video as he apparently is at making accurate rifles. I always carry a spare battery for the chrono. The thunder did sound very nice compared to today's gale force north wind!!

Does anyone on this board get consistent ignition and his accuracy with no wad and the loose fit he uses.. I like my bullets a little tighter to ensure the bullet doesn't move off the powder when hunting..I tried shooting without wads once and couldn't stay on the paper at 100yds... He's probably shooting Parker BE's. Looks like a fine rifle he makes.... Curious as to what his ignition system looks likes...Those buildings are farther than you might think.... Probably have to hold over 40-50' to come close. Zen

Zen, I am loading the 300 SST with that kind of one hand resistance, using RD/H4198, accuracy is pretty good. Never tried it without wads.
Anyone notice his cold bore shot didn't group with the other shots. Gun is a shooter, no doubt about that.

I would be a little worried out hunting with it that loose...Do you think those fast shotgun and pistol powders like RD and Clays would help prevent a misfire with a loose fitting load? Zen

My rifle also loads very easily, just like in the video. It shoots fine with no wad but when hunting I use a lubed wad for humidity protection.I don't know if it is absolutely needed but it is insurance. I have wondered since my ML uses LRM primers and the bullet to bore resistance is very minimal if the rifle primers aid in ignition compared to the tight fit most use with their 209 systems. Just a question, as a friend of mine has a rem700ml conversion and we needed a lot of resistance for his gun to ignite reliably.Oh, a side note the rifle in the video above was bought by another freind of mine for his hunt in Nebraska this year. I saw his target before his hunt that he had shot at 300 yds..Wow,the group was an inch right and measured about an inch outside to outside.Hankin's guns definitely shoot.

I dont see anything unsafe about the way he loads his primers. I get a bullet that fits like that to shoot good with IMR4759. I think the reason he has no ignition problems with a loose bullet and IMR4198 is because his primer has a perfect seal no blowback and all the flame and pressure makes it to the powder. If you want a snugger bullet seat fire a few rounds of acc5744 and don't clean the barrel before hunting or knurl a tad.

Zen I believe so, but I have not tested these loose fit loads in cold weather to say for certain. May try and shoot a couple days this week in 20-30* temps to see how velocities compare to warmer temp data.

I'd also be interested in a good picture of the b/p and ignition system. Looks interesting does he just sell the plug system or do you have to buy a rifle to get it? Jon

He will sell the breech plug and primers separate. Also the buildings in the back are about 4 or 5 miles away I don't this he will have to worry about hitting them. There is a quote I like from Mark Twain it goes its better to stand there looking a fool then to open your mouth and remove all doubt... I have been shooting my ML from Jeff for 5 years now and have only had trouble with pistol bullets and Hornady SSTs shooting key holes. I hunt with the parker match hunters and they shoot great out of my gun. I do shoot a few to foul the gun before season and I also polished my swage to make them fit a little tighter.

You are supposed to point your gun up when loading. It's not unsafe.. It's just your way of finding something wrong with a great shooting rifle.

No I'm not trying to find anything wrong with his gun.... But if you go to a rifle range and the Range Official saw you put a round(primer) in a gun pointed up into the sky he is not going to be very happy. I know if you come to the range I shoot at you would only be worned a couple times.

I've heard great things about the hankins priming system. Guessing larger flash hole helps with looser loadings. That being said, I can load pretty loose in t-shirt weather with shotgun primers and still get ignition.
I shot a deer last night using a FF 310APB and N120 no wad. Temp was -15F. I'm loading pretty loose maybe 15lbs of pressure. Did see approx 100FPS of fall off in velocity from 70F when I timed it the other day @ around 7F. Duplex would probably help with that.
On a side note: Actually, Solomon should get original credit about a fool opening his mouth.
Agreed that pointing a rifle in the air when closing the bolt is not a good idea.

that's not too far up the road, I will have to call him and see what the cost is. It sure would be fun and would be interesting to see if a 2000 dollar homebrew gun could compete with the big dogs..

His gun is advertised for $3800+ yet this site is putting them together for under $1000 without a scope. I believe their ate people here who could shoot as good or better.
Would be fun to go and shoot.
Hillbill let us know what the cost is would be interesting to find out!
