My latest project...this is a younger sister to my Katie female and her name is Sammy.aka(wildchild) ;D Though she has treed a "park" squirrel already there is something to say for a young dog when they tree one in the wild in a woods that have been squirrel dogged to death. That is excactly what she did this evening and I might add that she did a mighty fine job! You would like her buddy as she is going to be the right kind! Click on pic for video...

Rick, thanks so much. Four guys are here eating fish and we could not have asked for a better topic/post...we are still laughing as our house is very dog friendly and a young treeing walker would not shut up when she heard the audio. How old is the pup? Looking forward to following this one.

About 3.5 hours east of me,,, did you sell you male? If not how is he coming along I sold him. My initial plans was for a potential stud dog. He had the breeding but not enough drive and hunt for me. He would not hunt out very far. That was his downfall. The above female pup would hunt circles around him. He was also slow to start and mature. I am breeding for early starting, natural, hard driving tree dogs. He did not fit into that picture. He went to a older man who wants to walk hunt with a close hunting dog. A perfect fit. He sent me a pic yesterday of his NC squirrel. ;D

Thats great that you are breeding for a purpose!!! to many breeds today are all about looks, fancy stud names and $$$$$. Hope the BMC stays away from that. Also great that you fixed the male up with a good setting for his temperment.

He was not a detriment to the breed or I would have culled him. I have a specific set of traits that I am looking to improve upon and that will only come about through selective breeding.

tar12: Right on point. They are beautiful if they have the drive and ability to hunt well. Otherwise the "beauty" is just cosmetic and skin deep IMO.

My buddy had one of the UGLIEST walkers dogs you have ever seen. BUT that dog was the real deal in the timber! He line bred off of that female for years and you could count on a high percentage of the pups that were hunted to make avg. to above avg. dogs. There is something to say for that. All to often now they are "paper bred". This destroys the breed as it is strictly for the almighty dollar coming from pup sales. This is the primary reason I got away from hounds in general. The old time cold trailing take the track as they come to them type of dog is becoming extinct in favor of the babbling first strike blow through the country hot nosed dog. Not all lines have come to this but the vast majority have. this type of breeding has not reared its ugly head with the BMC thank God!

I had a Bluetick pup right when I first got out of the USMC. I do believe he was so inbred that he was retarded. He never hunted a thing worth a lick except to chase deer, but he kept the creeps away from my truck. My Grandpap was an old hound man and after he had been around the pup for awhile, I asked him if he thought something was wrong with that dog. He said " He's retarded and it sure took you awhile to figure that out". Well, I still miss them both....

Understood! so when will we start hearing about the "Tar" line of BMC's??? Soon enough! It has taken me several years to reach this point in time.I culled very heavily in search of what I wanted. I have some very high quality females here now.3 generations of 1 line that are reproducing the same over and over again. I can count on this line for repeatable traits. There were no short cuts getting here. I could have caved in and started a puppy mill but I do not operate that way nor will I. There will be 3-4 litters available each year and thats it. Shawnee Creek BMCs will go public in the spring.

Wow!! (I have been 'in the sticks' for several days...lots of coons and deer but minimal amenities) This is a discussion that some of us here in NC had hoped to see. Simply put, I/we look forward to following the discussion and when appropriate, would love to get on the pup list. FYI, Charlotte is about 4 hrs away...
