i have been thinking about getting a handgun for deer hunting. i have read several articles about the 460 smith and wesson magnum. from everything i am reading this gun is the way to go, excellent accuracy and pleny of knockdown power, even out to 150 yards. can i get some opinions on this weapon?

not bad it is ported by smith+wesson and trigger work was also done. much rather shoot that performance center 460 than a 454 in any other hand gun

I also have one from Performance center with Luther barrel. Yes a good shooter can do it, after developing the correct reloads. Hornady SST bullets is my choice. I hit a dong of 10 inch diameter at 200 yards with it.

Do you already have a modern inline muzzle-loader? I'd start there for deer hunting. This is assuming a centerfire is not allowed.

What type of hunting?
I have an XP-100 in 7mm-08 and feel comfortable on deer at 300yds if I can get a fair rest...a good shot will take prairie dogs at double that from the prone.

I had both the .500 and the .460. I'd go with the .460. The recoil on the .500 is unreal. But both were very accurate.

Little late but I have one also. Myself my wife and my 13 year old boy can shoot it accurately at 100yds with open sights. I shot it one handed and it was not bad at all. I would love to get a scope and see what I can do with it but finding ammo for it here is kinda hard
