I had a New England Arms 22 Hornet that my Dad and I went 50/50 several years ago. I had some 25-06 reloads around with nothing to shoot them in. I called NEA gave them the Serial # and asked if they could fit a 25-06 barrel to my receiver. They said they could but the barrels were on back order might be 8 week. That was fine with me so November of 2008 I sent it in. Later I heard Remington bought them out and I wondered if it would affect my order.
In January I got a call from NEA Service Department telling me I couldn't have a High-Pressure barrel put on that old a receiver only a 357 or 44 mag. I asked about a 12 ga. turkey barrel they said yes so I told them to go ahead. I waited and waited----- and waited-----then I called. After about 15-20 minutes I got to talk to a live person. Pete was his name and he was a good guy and a lot of help. He said that whoever called dropped the ball and didn't enter the repair order in. He said he would take care of it. 24 in turkey barrel extra full screw in choke, about a week I should have it. I waited--------and waited------and waited----- I called talked to Pete after the 15-20 minutes again. I had been so long since I placed the order I had changed credit cards. I had a City Bank but when I found out they gave OBAMA 6 MILLION DOLLARS for his campaign I dumped them.
I gave Pete the new info and received the barrel last Friday. A light weight 24 in barrel. I didn't expect the 3.5 in chamber and would never shoot one in that light of a gun. I noticed the receiver was scratched on both sides and on the bottom. I understand that a lot of people use a NEA for a pickup rifle but I take care of my guns.
I broke it open and the barrel just flopped when I shut it back up the slop in between the receiver and barrel was unacceptable. I am not making this up when you held the receiver solid there was at least 3/8 of an inch movement side to side and near that up and down at the muzzle end of the barrel.
I will buy another NEA H&R but I will never send one in for re barreling again. I called and talked to Mark at NEA and they sent a shipping label and wanted me to send both the receiver and barrel in. But I told him I would just send the barrel back and to please remove the charges from my card. We'll see what happens.
