Hi guy's Just looking for some input, I have a .45 cal pacnor barrel sitting around waiting for a donor gun, Instead of purchasing another complete savage MLII i was thinking maybe i could pick up a stevens 200 maybe used fairly cheap ( even A new one is only about 300.Bucks) take the Barrel off, replace with My .45 Pacnor and have a Breechplug Made for the .45 acp case like Edge's and Dave D'd Rem 700 conversions ?. Am I Missing anything along the lines of what i'm thinking? Any foreseeable problems that i might have missed?

Unless you are doing all the machining yourself then the cost of that would be as much as a used 10ML. With the state of the economy and hunting seasons just about over, unless you are in a hurry there should be some used 10ML available soon at good prices. mike

The breechplug that I designed is for a barrel without a barrel nut.
IMO, one reason that the Savage is so safe is because the breechplug extends past the barrel nut! You could have someone make a long snout that will work with a 45 ACP case, but it does make for a fairly long plug.

Edge: If the Savage is stronger because the breechplug extends past the barrel nut, if one recesses the breechplug does that compromise the strength or is that not a factor in your opinion? Just curious. By that I mean when the breechplug is modified in effect to make a mini chamber in it and lets the powder get closer to the primer.

Thanks guy's I did not think about the additional machining Or that Edge's design was for a Rifle without the Barrel nut, . And with Lousy econmy your probably right about finding one out there at a good price. I will just hold off and keep looking for a good used MLII Thanks for all your advice As usual It is right on.

Just curious. By that I mean when the breechplug is modified in effect to make a mini chamber in it and lets the powder get closer to the primer. I would consider it a non issue. The threads of the Breechplug extend past the recoil lug, the snout just gets the pressure a bit further from that area. In low production you could get away with a shorter plug even with the barrel nut, but I would not go that route. I tend to go with belts and suspenders edge.
