I shot this hog last Sunday morning @25 yards with my bow. He was the biggest of the 4 that came into the feeder.(In Florida they use corn feeders with timers that throw corn) He went about 40 yards and piles up. After I shot him I got down out of the stand and went after some gobbling Osceola's that were behind me. By the time I got close they were down and henned up. After calling for 2 hours with no luck i went back and retrieved my 120 lbs. boar. Not the biggest I ever shot but a nice eater. I hunted two weekends with my friends who are in the lease. Out of the 4 hogs I saw the two weekends 3 of them winded me and left before I could shoot. I shot another one late the first evening I hunted but never found him. There they have a 100 yard rule which works about 90% of the time, if you don't find them in 100 yards you most likely wont. Ive been going there for the last 7-8 years and killed close to 30 hogs with my bow. I had a fun time and look forward in going again next year. Mike

Mike, Nice hog and bow shot. Glad you had a great time. Looks like an excellent way to hone the archery skills in the off season. Steve

thats a nice hog! my buddy moved to FL 5 years ago ,and his daughters father-in-law hunts near ocala national forest. he shot one around 300 lbs. my buddy got his first taste of wild hog and he said it was better than pork bought in the store. that surprised me cause of the tough brush down there, but ii guess they prbably get some nice grass and corn from cattle feeders.

Nice hog. I want to try wild hog meat sometime, additionally it's an excuse to go on a hog hunt.
mike3132- What is the fan for? Does it help dry the hog off after washing or used for personal cooling? Just wondering, I've never hunted in "the tropics."

Nice Mike. We don't have hogs where I hunt. But I think a dukes mixture of legal game make for a better hunt. If a deer, hog, bear or turkey wanders by then if they are legal to take the hunt is more interesting overall. I know too many hogs will decrease the deer population due to food shortage but a few would be interesting. I think most hogs are just domestic hogs that have become semi wild. Is that correct?

You've got that right. Shot one in southern South Carolina, a few years back. I was watching three deer when they got antsy and got out of there. Saw a sow with a mess of piglets and then came the boar. I took him with one shot from my .308. The owner asked that we shoot as many as possible--no charge. Even though I was told to stay in the stand, I didn't and one angry sow followed me, grunting and squealing, back to the stand. The critter was in the swamp and I was between her and her piglets with nothing but brush between her and me at less than 10-feet. Thought I bought the farm that night. Owner weighed him in at 375-pounds and took the photos to every sports show, claimed it was a pure Russian, all black--heck I don't know pigs well enough to make that call. But, it proved to be the most exciting hunt I hope to ever experience! The buck in velvet was a good deer, but that boar was something else! The next day one charged into the side of the owners pick-up, just as some hunters were getting out. Seemed all elected to go to another spot. Have a great day! Dave
