Will be running these in one of my lightweight 308's for a walking around woods rifle for the big hardwood bottom land swamps we hunt in eastern NC. Will not be looking for more than about 2500 FPS or so out of these. Am thinking that RL 15 would be a good choice, or perhaps 4350. Performance should not be an issue with either of these bullets at the velocities I am looking to push them, anybody got any experience with these two pills out of the 308.....mainly looking for accuracy over speed......most shots will be around 100 yds or less, with the occasional shot at 150.....woods are just to thick to get more than that..

You know all the hardware I have I don't have anything in 30 caliber... Sorry I think any thing in the 30/30 class will work fine and a bud runs a 150 an R15 and there perfect.

in some hopes of helping you i played w/ stock rem 700 .308 factory w/1/12twist barrel.
the load i settled on r15 @46.0gns 185gn berger vld @ 2680fps
other loads of interest during this trial were berger 168 hybrid r15 @ 48.6gns 2840fps berger 155 hybrid r15 @48.6 speed unknown-guessing around 2900fps.
barnes 165tsx cfe223 @ 48.34gns @ 2835fps barnes 165tsx bl-c2 @46.0 gns @ 2704fps
just some realtime data to look over//recoil was not bad on all loads

Deadeye, how did you like the CFE223? Got plenty of powders to try, just amtter of getting the time to work thru the loads. Work is kinda crazy right now, plus the 90+ deg temps are not very conducive to load development.....

Actually the Winchester factory loaded 150gr Ballistic Silvertips right out of the box seems to do just fine for me. They are around 2800fps in the factory load.
4350 might be a little slow for a short barrel .308 and light bullets. With a 150gr bullet probly around 46-47gr would give you 2500fps. If I had to pick a powder 4895 or 4320 with light bullets would probly be my first choices. It seems the magic number with a 150gr bullet in a .308 is around 2700fps to get the best accuracy. 2600 for a 165-170gr.
Deadeye,, and everybody accuses me of pushing the limits.......

My son's .308 Remington 18 inch barreled carbine likes 165 grain Sierras with IMR 4350. A very accurate load and reliable in his semiauto. Used the accuracy load recommendation. At the ranges you mentioned, top velocity is not required but accuracy is. You may have to shoot through a small "window." Three shot groups under 1" at 100 yards.

dans, spot on with what I am looking for....
Rossman, I am looking at the heavier bullets for the 308, and think 4350 fills the case pretty good and will yield the speeds I am looking for......I also have BL-C2, R10X, R7 and Varget......I think I should have something that will yield what I am looking for.....

Reloader15 and Varget are top performers for the bullet weights you want to use I also like IMR4320 and you wont fined this in any of the newer reload manuals but Accurate2700 works great for the speeds you want.

I just never had luck with 150gr bullets and 4350. Works great with 180gr bullets.

I don't have the patience to do all the shaking and tapping to get all of the 4350 into a 308 case. I read of a 41.1 gr IMR 4895 and 168 gr SMK load that was the military match load. I find 41.1 to 41.8 gr IMR 4895 and a 165 gr SGK gives me 2500+ fps and < 0.75 inch 100 yd groups out of 8 different 308s.

I load 150BT's and varget for my uncle in his .308 and it has been the hammer of Thor on 10 deer or so and a hog or 2, good speed and very good shooting

My Rem. Mod. 7, 20" SS synthetic .308 loves 43.5 gr. of H-4895 with the 165 Sierra Gamekings. It will consistently keep five shots in one inch or less at 100 yards and 2 1/2 to 3" at 300. I use 30/06 cases and push the shoulders back to .308 length (1/2" I think?). This gives me some thicker brass to work with. I then (trim them to length) lightly neck turn them (just enough to clean the necks up) What this does, is decrease the the neck clearance in the factory chamber. This makes for a "tighter" neck. A tighter, turned neck holds the case/bullet in closer alignment with the bore which goes along with better accuracy. Richard
