I am using a weatherby rifle to try to hunt coyotes with. 55gr bullets for now (Nosler spitzer ballistic tip, and Hornady V-max). In one of my other posts Richard and Rossman suggested using a full case (compressed load I think its called) so the ignition might be more uniform consistantly. Is there a powder that fills the case? I have 2 reloading books and I didnt see a compressed load in either. Right now I am using IMR 4895 as a starting point. 33gr is what I started at and I got about a 1" group at 50 yds standing no sling. It was my first reloads and I just wanted to make sure they went bang Thanks Lunchbox

according to the nosler manual h380 @ 41.0 is 95% capacity//my favorite 22-250 load is approx 38.0 of h380
also in the nosler manual w760@41.0@95% have never tried this powder in 22-250
remember always start low & work up. hope this helps

Use Varget or 8208 and ignition will never be a problem . We use a "Match or Bench" primer and shoot at down to -40* at 6000'. It's not a compressed load...

Could the issue of compressed loads be over-stated?
After finding loads that several rifles like, I have been able to get from one inch groups down to 1/8th inch group, with many (most) in between. Not once was there ever a compressed load in any of them.

With a 55gr Varmint Nightmare bullet I use 39gr of AC2700 and a CCI mag or Win mag primer and its a tack driver

Have loaded Remington cases (sorted by weight) with Fed. Match primers charged with 40.0grs. of Varget topped off with a Hornady 40gr. V-Max bullet. From a 26'' Remington stainless heavy barrel it shoots 1/2''at slightly over 4100fps. Bullets never exit body shot chucks. I have also loaded 36.5grs of Benchmark with a 50gr. Hornady V-Max with the same case and primer combo to just shy of 4000fps with 1/2''groups from the same Remington heavy barrel. Good enough for me and chucks to just over 350yds. Best shot on a crow was 265yds.

+1 Deadeye, H-380 all the way. The .22/ 250 is what that powder was invented for.

If you want to shoot 40 gr bullets 10X is a very good powder also. I used this load last year to drop a coyote at 100 yds, went in just behind the shoulder and passed through the other side at the base of the neck. with a 24 in barrel it will give you close to 4200fps.

Yesterday I shot a 5 shot group under 1" @ 100 yards using 50 Vmax, 36.0 Varget in a 1-12 twist Savage. Three of them went into the same hole and I pulled one shot which made it 1". Without the pulled shot the group was 1/2". Mike
