Jim, as I mentioned by PM, I ordered the 1.5x4.5 28 mm to put on my HHA Optimizer on my SZ380. The 2.5x10 50mm was just a tad bit large for the smallish SZ and especially so with the Optimizer under it. I have 2 50mm 2.5x10s and 2 of the same in 56mm. They are great scopes for the money. Rossman, please give a history of these again.

The WCE was Weavers attempt to get back into the upper end market and from what I heard was the predecessor to the Super Slams. Weaver really didn't advertise it like they should and with the almost $1k price tag plus Weavers early reputation they didn't sell. Once the Super Slams came out Federal/ATK had bought Weaver. The decision was made to morph the Classic Extremes into the Tactical line and let the 1" tube Super Slams take the top slot. I think Weaver/Federal/ATK got some feedback or realized the screw up and came out with the Super Slam Euros which in my opinion is one of the top scopes in the less then $1k range and beats many above it. You get the 30mm tube, top notch glass and coatings, illuminated reticle and side focus of the WCE. But to even sweeten the deal they added a 5X erector, Tactical style knobs and a laser etched FFP reticle. About the only drawback is the weight, and that is because how tough these scopes are built.
Now for those that have one of the WCEs and if it does for some reason goes bad. Do not settle for anything less then a Super Slam Euro if they want to swap it out. The only boardmember that I know of that had one go bad was Mike Dawson and when they offered to swap it out he took my advise and said he wanted the #800373 SSE 4-20X50. They kinda balked on that and offered to repair his. He had it back repaired in 3 weeks total time.
I keep hearing different things on the run of the older Vipers, somebody said they were 1" tubes.

Mine is a 30mm. And I ordered it under the current deal they have going. They discontinued the wide plex reticle and they are now on closeout. I have mixed feelings on the newer "busy" reticle designs. Some of them I really like and see where they could be very useful. But for a rifle I intend to use with a range finder and adjust the scope as necessary I like just a plain cross hair with the sight picture as wide open as I can get it. The wide plex fits that bill nicely.

The wide plex fits that bill nicely. I tend to agree with you 100%. My preferences are to KISS. While I understand the intended purpose of Mil dots and all the current popular gadgets that people are adding to scopes I still prefer a conventional duplex cross hair and scope in proper size that does not throw the balance of the rifle off or require me to mount the bell so high that it gives me a improper cheek weld on the stock. OFF TOPIC::: The only scope that I have found that really thrills me with knobs and range finding reticles is the Kahles 6x zf series. I have been using one for about 20 years now and love it. I own 2 of them. The glass is about as clear and as sharp as anything on the market and the adjustments WORK as advertised. The range finding reticle works well if you understand how to use it properly and practice with it. The adjustment knobs work and are not crazy large where they snag on clothing and gear. Kahles is getting out of reach for a lot of pocketbooks now days and other manufactures are making similar items at lower prices but IMHO no one has come close to getting it right as Kahles has done. . Glad I got mine years ago before the hike.

Natchez has some of the WCE scopes on sale now for those looking. Ive been examining a lot of scopes recently and dollar for dollar Weaver is looking like the sleeper in scopes at the moment. The prices for the quality you get cannot be matched by anyone at this point and time.

I received my WCE 28mm 1.5x4.5. It is not much smaller than my 30mm Hawke XB-30 scope on my x-bow. However, it is brighter, significantly brighter! I have been comparing them in the waning hours(minutes) of light. The lighted reticle will go as dim as anyone could want. For $269 this is quite a deal!

I'm not sure about the model sw posted about, but the only thing lighted on mine is the center dot. Turned off you can barely see it and the crosshairs appear normal.

The x-hairs appear normal. The dot is barely visible when off. Unlike many scopes, the lower levels of lighting do not adversely affect low light presentation of the scope . I think the WCE scopes(I have the 1.5x4.5 and 4 2.5x10) approach the Nightforce and upper level European scopes.
