Anyone using IMR 4831 in a 6mm rem? I have a very old hornady reloader manual that gives 50.2 load of 4831 with a 87gr bullet, this just seems to be a lot for this cartridge, I shoot a lot of IMR 4831 in my two 6mm-284s but have never used it in the 6mm rem. any advice would appreceiated.

Hodgdon reloading manual online says 48.0c = 61,300 psi for IMR4831. I believe I would use the newer data. Mike

Back when I started reloading in1973 and got the latest Hornady reloading manual, when compared to the Sierra manual of the day, the Hornady charges were hot !

It may be a little tough getting 50gr of IMR 4831 in a 6mm Rem case. MY Speer says 51.0gr but that's for H4831. I think IMR is a tad faster. That's why I perfer the H4831SC. I can squeeze more in the case. 4831 is a great powder for the 6mm. If you are concerned, start at 47grs and work it up slowly using your chrony and reading your primers. Check out www.hodgdon.com. They own IMR now and the data site has info on both 4831's. Good shooting!

Are you using mag primers in the 6mm or regular LR?

I usually don't use mag primers until I am over 65 or 70 grains of powder (powder dependent). I have even used BR basic cases for .243 and the small primer did fine.
