Does anyone have the German #4 crosshair on their Weaver Classic Extreme? Just wondering how it is compared to the standard crosshair? Does the illuminated dot cover up at long range? Wanting to put one on my RemPac when it is done. Would the 4.4X14 power be OK for hunting. I have a 4.5X14 Burris on another gun and am fine for hunting with it. EDIT: I have Warne bases, would I need high rings (50mm scope) or would medium sneak by? Thanks, Jay.

The Weaver duplex, or Dual-X as they call it, is pretty small, at least the center/fine portion. I have a 2.5-10X56 with the duplex and wish I would have gotten the #4. As far as the dot I never have measured mine. It is pretty fine and I would say 1 or maybe 2 MOA on 2.5X. You do have to watch as the dot as it is not perfect with the crosshair. On mine the bottom of the dot is the crosshair which I can live with. If you get one check the alignment of the dot as soon as you get it.
Mounting mine I used medium Burris Signature Zees on a Farrell one piece. I have almost a 1/4" clearance on the barrel/objective but I can not go lower or the mag ring would hit the mount in the rear. If you go with a 50mm objective and the Warne mounts (which are pretty low) mediums would be pretty close, highs would give you some assurance. Just look at the specs on the rings because what might be a medium with one brand would be a low with another, there is no standard.

Refering to the size of illuminated dot at higher magnification and low light capabilities at 4.4 power under hunting conditions. I ordered the 4.4X14X50 WCE with German #4 reticle, and keeping my fingers crossed that I will like it. Have never seen a WCE in person but have never heard any negatives from anyone. ALSO, why is the 2.5X10X50 and 56mm priced at $900+ but the 4.4X14X50 and up show only $500+, even though Natchez has them for $299-$329 respectively??? Just wondering.
Thanks, Jay.

The reason you see the high price tag is that it was the MSRP when those scopes came out. Natchez price of $299-329 is the closeout price when Weaver discontinued them.
You have to remember you will only use the dot in low light situations and I've only bagged one deer out of 10 where I needed the dot. But in that situation the shot would have been tough to almost impossible without it.
You also have to remember in low light situations you may not be able to use a lot of magnification. With my 2.5-10X56 during a full moon and a light colored field I can put the dot on one at 100yds and maybe get 4X. With full moon and snow on the ground I can see out to 200yds+ and get almost full magnification.
What you also have to remember with higher magnification you get lower Field Of View (FOV). I think that has lead to the increase in erectors. The old 3X erectors (2-7X, 3-9X and 4-12Xs) have given way to 5X, 6X and even 10X erectors. These give you a good FOV with lower magnifications while still having a good high end. An example would be a 6.5-20X50 compared to a 4-20X50. You have about a 50% increase in the FOV at the lower magnification with the 4-20X50. Where this effects you hunting is if your taking close in shots. Stand hunting whitetail here in the east you could have shots less then 50yds compared to say pronghorn hunting in the west where your short range shot would be 100yds if your lucky. trying to make a snapshot with magnification of more then 4X at less then 100yds can be, let's say, challenging.

I didn't realize the dot would only be present when turned on. I was thinking it would be like a lighted ballistic plex on a Burris, same reticle only illuminated when on. That will be fine with me. Thanks alot.

I have the 2.5-10x50 with illuminated dot. I leave the dot on, works like a red dot on a fast moving closer shot, crank up the power when needed.
deadeye, mine seems to. When I make adjustments, I measure what I need by the bullet impact, turn the dials the appropriate clicks, and it's always been right on. Great scope.

I have two 2.5x10x56mm and one 8x32x50 mm WCE. Nice scopes for the money I think.
