Well primitive weapons season opened yesterday, I went to Eglin Air Force Base with high hopes...the RUT is ON.....
I had located a concentration of does earlier in regular gun and my friends killed an eight point and a six point on the last couple days of that season.
Anyway it was my turn for some action, I walked around 3/4 mile into the area and climbed a nice pine with my summit viper
and got set in. .....about 20 minutes after daybreak I heard a commotion and saw 3 does running to my right about 50yds away.....I readjusted my seat to look that way ready to see a trailing buck........5 minutes went by....then all of a sudden two deer came out in the open 80 yds away, I threw my .50 omega
up and looked through the scope and saw a racked deer MOUNTING a doe...... the area we hunt in requires a min. of three points on one side..... I pulled the hammer back put the left shoulder on the humping buck and fired,ha ha ha.....
after the smoke cleared I saw a floping Buck on the ground.
The doe ran about ten yards away and started Blowing at him
as to say I can't believe you are laying down now after chasing my butt all night. ......
It happened so fast that I didn't realize what had just happend.
It was a once in a lifetime of hunting scenario.
If I would have let him finish they would have humped their way behind a Big Oak with no shot......
I was shooting a 195 barnes expander with a mmp 40/50 blue sabot on top of two 50 gn 777 pellets.
I'm going again today but am going to wait until the afternoon
its 28 degrees and blowing 28 mph this morning.....
my goal is one a day till the season is out... we can shoot two per day in florida......I really like my OMEGA and it and the 195 Barnes did great the first 30 minutes of hunting time that I used them.
Now I'm going after the big 10 that has eluded me for the past couple seasons............I know I can put him down now.......
My buddy had a video camera so we did a little filming its on you tube " Eglin muzzleloader hunt" If I knew how to do the link I would, check it out....
