I have purchased my last pair of Irish Setters. Three and a half years ago I bought a 250 dollar pair of kangaroo leather gortex lined beauties. Some bean counter decided he could get more boots with a seam at the ball of the foot. Seam failed, boots returned, model discontinued. Wholesale credit for retail price on a new pair. New boots leaked the following spring, model discontinued, wholesale credit on a retail price. New boots leaking this spring.
I am fed up with Chinese made junk boots. I was a died in the wool Redwing man. You can have these Irish Setters.
Who makes a decent pair of boots in this country anymore?

While they are not made in USA, Meindl boots are, IMHO, some of the best made. I have the Perfekt Hikers, 3 years running with zero problems. Unfortunately only Cabelas sell them in the US.

i tromp around in the mountains in colorado each year for approx 3 weeks. footing is the utmost importance. hiking footwear by raichle is best imo bar none, meindl is a close second. i look to the hikers not hunting boots for all around comfort & reliability

I've always been a die hard Danner fan, either the Fort Lewis or the Canadians.

Had a set of Cabelas boots that lasted 9 or 10 years before they leaked and the sole started to come loose. Currently have a set of Cabelas 1200 gram Bruins and a set of 800 gram Guide Series boots, they are in the 3-5 year range, no leaks. I doubt I buy another brand as far as hunting goes. Had one pair of their Rimrock hikers that held up okay as an everyday work boot, on my second set of those for work.

Its hard to get an American made boot,Red Wing is one (not Irish Setter) Russel up here in Wi.. Make a great boot, custom fit pricey? Even Schnees, La crosse are made in China RC

Sorry to hear that about Lacrosse. That was my brand of boot, but they don't seem quite as rugged now. This is a good thread, since the quality of the different brands is changing fast. For ice fishing I use a monster pair of Rangers, and am as warm in 15 deg. sitting as when my feet are inside. Lacrosse rubber boots such as the burly are excellent by the way.

I've had good luck with Rocky's have been wearing them for three years deer hunting and trade back and forth between those and LaCrosse rubber. The two pair have gotten me through many seasons. But for hiking I use Danner. Heard Three Forks also makes a decent boot. Have a great day! Dave

I like Rachels, but the toe box is too small for me.
I got a pair of Zamberlains 5 years ago and they are great. I try to backpack 100 - 200 miles on the Appalachian Trail every year. I get good traction and ankle support. Gore-Tex liner doesn't leak yet.
