Shot this nice buck this week. I went to a timber that had a picked corn field next to it. Figured there were deer using it....it's not very wide, I can almost cover the whole thing from the middle. He came right at my tree and I was favoring the downwind side so I could shoot him before he hit my windstream. Then he turned sharp 10yds out and went upwind of me. I had to turn and lift my bow cause I had my climber in a 3-trunked soft maple for cover. He looked up at me once, probably cause I was only 15' and it was bare...he wasn't concerned at all apparently about a 240 lb redneck in a tree, lol. I didn't move my feet, just twisted and swung as I drew...of course my hood , which I had up against the 15mph Iowa breeze, refused to turn with me and covered half my face.... I had to stop him between 2 trees and he looked up at me from 12 yds as I shot quick. I hit him a little lower than I wanted to but got him thru the heart. He ran out of sight so I left him overnight. 85gr Slick Tricks left a very good trail. He ran the edge for 60yds and I could see the blood on the chisel plowed dirt even. He ducked back in the timber and fell 10 yds from the edge. I was dang happy to see him laying there! He's got a huge blocky head...makes his rack look smaller than it is but he's right at 19" inside and has 12" g2's. Big bodied also..all gouged up around the eyes and back of his neck, He was a brawler !
