I'm shooting a 377gn total weight arrow around 295fps. Gold tip velocity, blazervanes, carbon assault100gn BH. Mathews switchbackxt @66lbs. For penetration should I be going heavier with my arrow/bh setup?.... My FOC seems to be around 12% with a 29" arrow. These guys were getting ready to go to HADLEY CREEK and had full metal jacket arrows with 125gn rages total weight around 449gns , they shot 279fps out of a 70# hoyt carbon bow. Were they on the right track ... ? Comments anyone.... Thanks in advance.....

I'm broke right now, so I'll have to get by with what I got,but I will re-arrow/bh up when I get a chance. I did kill a doe last week that went completely through quartering away from me last week at 18yds. It went through the rear of the tenderloins on the left side through the chest and come out throught the front leg, she was DRT ,no tracking. I might not be so lucky on a much larger/tougher Buck though. Thanks Deadeye and SW you both know what you are talking about and I respect your input/comments. Greenhorn

If you are worried about the penetrating effectiveness of your set-up you could increase the weight of the broadhead or even add heavier inserts but you should be producing somewhere around 70 KE which should be plenty if you hit the rib cage. I don't think you could add enough weight to be assured of a complete pass through if hitting shoulder bone squarely.

Thanks Doug my pc was having some problems with it but i'll try it on another one. I have 300 shafts so the inserts are a good idea ,one that I had forgotten about. I like the stiffer shafts ,they seem to perform well out of my bow. GH

Greenhorn Yeah that is a little stiff for your set up but adding weight to the tip will limber those shafts up some at release. The shafts need to flex to a certain extent to perform at peak efficiency. Adding weight to the front will definitely help with that situation. Doug

You are fine. I shot a moose with a 400 gr setup at 45 yds. Got full penetration on the offside. A tuned setup and a good BH is much more important that KE figured on a calculator...

After my gutshot ,I have been practicing more with current setup. I am shooting a gatorade cap or .5"to it at 30yds. Which is good for me...with a maybe one more bowhunt before gun season..... Kreiger, thanks for the encouragement, I am hunting Florida deer which rarely are 175 on the hoof, mostly 115 lbs. ,, I KNOW....... their small, but still fun to hunt and great to eat. Greenhorn
