guys I have included Ryan email address in the original post. If your interested in his plug email him. Also I have been asked the difference between the two plugs so here it is. Petes plug is nicer to look at and has a tapered primer pocket which we believe might allow for easy removal but has not been tested. I tested Ryans .242 straight pocket and I was able to get all but one out with my fingers ( extractor would do it. I've been asked if they will work in a omega and the answer is yes.

Dave, these plugs are to be used with which manufacturers barrels? Yeah, same question for me. Will this work with my SMI 45/70 Encore conversion?

I asked Dave the same question on the phone tonight. They will work with the DD barrel like drop had done for his Encore. Not for the 45-70 conversion, well maybe if you had the plug before sending it off to SMI for them to fit it?

Dave, Compared to the savage plug, which IYO would be a hotter plug to shoot smokeless in any conversion. What I'm getting at is , if this one IS a hotter plug , why not use it on any conversion, just have pacnor, mcgowen ,etc.,thread to accept it.

:)ok let's start with fishhawk and howa these plugs like Steve answered will work in any encore or omega factory chamber which includes the dd bullberry conversions. They will also work for any conversion if you haven't chambered it yet. Now greenhorn there's a reason why certain plugs are used for certain conversions. It all depends on primers that are going to be used( cases or 209's) and weather or not you need length to fill up a chamber(45-70 conversions) or get past a recoil lug(700ml). I hope I've explained it well enough.

update: tested Ryan plug yesterday and everything worked great. My easy extractor would not extract the primer but I was able to get everyone out by hand. I hope there will be some pa machine reports soon.

Not for the 45-70 conversion, well maybe if you had the plug before sending it off to SMI for them to fit it? Since this is an Encore or Omega plug...Could you just have them chamber it for a stock plug? That is what was used for a pattern... But the snout would have to be enlarged in diameter for a .50. These are both nice looking plugs and am thinking of ordering one but I noticed the thread count is different. I assume they are not interchangeable?? If someone can expand upon this thought I would appreciate it. I am having a hard time understanding which shoulder the plugs headspace off of.

:)steve they both have the same thread count. the first couple of pics were prototypes. both plugs will look like the last pic for threads and both are interchangable.

Dave thanx, now its starting to make more sense to my little brain. can you tell me what the small diameter is which holds the ventliner as I am assuming there are two shoulders which the plug will headspace off of?

It's been along while since i have talked to pete on the phone. I cant believe he is charging that kind of price for a Omega breech plug. New and better idea's is great for everyone, but my Gosh sale it at a reasonable price.

I think it is a reasonable price... these arent mass produced they are individually made.... I had Encore plugs... fitted for a ventliner..didnt do what these plugs do. If the price is to steep for you then there are other options These arent stock omega plugs...look at the machine work....T/C plugs are mass produced..and yes they are about a third the price....But not near the quality as these. Which equates to no blowby which in turn equates to no soot or char marks on my $400 dollar scope. Kind of like how other mzl loaders...there are some that claim to do the same....but oh well...you know what I mean drop

Steve one sealing surface. The snout you are referring to is a pressure diverter. It sits inside the lands and makes pressure make a extra 90 degree turn to get into the threads. Let me know if I explained this good enough to understand.

The snout you are referring to is a pressure diverter.
That makes sense to me as I have a rudimentary understanding of the dynamics of internal combustion in a bottleneck cartridge---or automobile engine for that matter. It also makes sense from a machining standpoint to headspace off of one shoulder---
Thanx-----Steve
