I attended the annual Coon Hunters Fall Festival today and saw a beautiful Ruger 77/50 for sale. It looked spankin' new on the outside. The fellow wanted $375 for it. I asked if he had the tools to remove the breechplug and he handed them to me . The first 4" from the breechplug was totally torched. He agreed with me and I told him that the barrel would have to be swapped. I already had the cogs turning for a mental project. But it all went up in smoke when he said that the lowest he'd go was $325. I guess I made him angry when I told him the highest I could go was $150. Anyhow I'm sure he won't let the next guy use the breechplug tools for a peek at the bore. Life's full of disappointments.

$150 is about right for a Ruger ML gun with a ruined bore.
About once a month i make my rounds of the pawnshops. i carry a little bag with all the breechplug removal tools. Also have some small medical flashlights. i turn the light on and drop it down the bore backwards.
Some of the pawnshop owners don't like to have their guns inspected.

Falcon Your barrel inspection method reminded me of how a pawn shop owner showed me one time. In a .50 he would drop a .45 casing down the barrel with the with the bullet end touching the breechplug, and would shine a flashlight down the barrel and the reflection off of the primer/base of the casing would light up the barrel for inspection, i thought it was a pretty cool technique. It definitely works if you don't have a small flashlight,a bullet casing shouldn't be too hard to come up with. Greenhorn

Maybe you should read the rules about selling here then and also notice this topic is over 6 years old.

I have a Ruger 77/50 that I'm willing to sell for $300.00 and the bore is PERFECT on it. I bought it with the idea of being able to hunt in inclement weather, and I did hunt with it a few times, but never in bad weather. I'm a side hammer fan so although I have enjoyed my Ruger (I'm also a big Ruger fan)....I can let it go. Buyer pays the shipping charges too. PM me at : rltorlai@msn.com and try and take a bore pic for you. This is where items for buying and selling are posted: dougsmessageboards.proboards.com/thread/8912/buying-selling
