Hello all, I thought I'd introduce myself here as I joined mostly for info on the Savage 10ML II. I have one on layaway now with Buds and will pay it off next paycheck. It's a synthetic stock but I will replace with a classic style Richards Microfit. I have a CVA Optima but I really love the ability of the Savage to load up to nearly the power of a .375 H&H inside of 50 yards.
As a hunter I do realize that shot placement is key but there is still part of me that desires big, bad and powerfull.
Hope to learn a lot here.

Hi Metro, welcome to the board! You've come to the right place to learn about the 10MLII, with many who can help out with any question/problem which may come up.
For a step ahead, read the "Hints & Tips" section, and don't be afraid to ask questions. There are many of us who would have given up on our original rifle had it not been for this board.
But beware, there's a fever that goes on around here. When infected, you may not be satisfied with just one! ;D ;D

Welcome aboard Metro! Plenty of good information here. Definitely study up on the Hints and Tips section as it will answer a lot of questions. Just a couple of key things to make your first range session rewarding.....................Make sure the combination you choose to load (bullet and sabot) are tight!!!!! Don't even think about "Powerbelts!" They are way too loose. If you have (if not you should get one) a caliper (digital or dial) the diameter across your bullet/sabot should be around .507 or .508". Powerbelts are typically around .501 or .502" and you may not get ignition. When I first tried them (getting started) the power of the primer pushed the bullet out the barrel and it tumbled down the range. Powder did not ignite. You should have to use two hands to seat your charge. With the butt on a bathroom scale you should be above 30 lbs. to seat or even up and around 60. It cannot be too tight. Remember, if you are using a .452" bullet you should be using the Harvester Red Crush Sabot. With the .458" bullets (Barnes original 300 gr, Hornady #4500 300 gr. or Rem. 300 gr. or other bullets designed for the 45/70) use the Harvester Black Crush Ribs. MMP makes a black #12 that generally works well with the .452's and they make an orange sabot that will work for some............with the .458's. By and large, more shooters get their better results in the .50 smokeless with .458" bullets.............but the .452's will work also. If you ever feel you have a problem and would like to speak with someone via phone? PM me and I will give you my number.
Richard

Thanks guys! I live in Garland Texas just east of Dallas. I actually have 4 muzzleloaders right now. One Hawkins .50 flint lock from CVA, the one you buy as a kit and finish the stock, polish the brass and send the barell off to have blued. My dad and I built that, good lord, about 30 years ago and I still have it as well as two of the .45 caliber flint lock pistols from the kit, we had so much fun with the rifle we each got a pistol kit. Those are a lot of fun to shoot, good memories as a kid with dad in the garage building those guns then going out and shooting them. Then I have the CVA Optima Pro Magnum, I have been shooting that the most recently and like I said in my first post I have the affliction of MORE POWER! This led to the research that open the world of the Savage 10 ML II to me. I have the Optima up for sale to help fund the new stock and pound of smokeless etc.. If I don't sell it I'm fine keeping it even though I don't see myself shooting it anymore. Most of my hunting consist of hogs, as soon as things cool down a bit I'm fixin to go kill a few in far east Texas as well as some squirells, catfish and crappie for a fish fry. Won't be using the Savage on the catfish though.

One day you'll see BIGMOOSE post he is the hardcore want more power guy here,he shoots moose and BROWNIES,"GRIZZLIES"with his savage,he and all of us here wanted more also ,glad to see you wanted to stepped it up a notch. I have a couple of optimas that cost me a couple of good deer so I decided to end the madness also. Smokeless is great at the range ,you actually get to shoot a few rounds without the PIA cleaning. I think they need to ban ALL of Blackpowder substitutes because of all of the cleaning that HAS to be done. Welcome aboard, warning hogs don't like the ml2 ,it turns them into BACON ,lol. Greenhorn
