As stated I took of the buldged shortie,, the buldge is right in the rear sight area,, this also seems to be the place where the barrels let loose when they blow, the few that have. Mine is buldged but only shows this on the inside,,, outside seems fine and if I did not pay attention to the loose feeling when seating a sabot I would not notice it,,, you can see it from the breech end though on the inside, a couple of shinny marks in a 1 inch range,,, what if these blown barels are barrels that have been buldged by either a double load or a non seated load, then they are abused again and the barrel blows?,,, mine could be recut to a reallly short barrel and loose the buldge, but it would be really short,,,

Seems like you could make that little man in your avatar pic a fine reduced power youth ML with that?

Cut off with the bulge gone, of course.

I thought about it,,, also thought about a shorter barreled Encore than my 26 inch Encore SMI, as I am rather smitten with it,,, the 26 inch encore is shorter overall than the 21 inch barreled savage shortie ml2 was.
Wonder if I could have the short pacnor remade into a short Encore barrel?

That's an interesting question! I have my bulged 50 Savage barrel, that could be shortened to 20-21", and I would love to have a smokeless ML Encore. I've been shopping for a reasonably priced action for a while. It would probably be less expensive to buy a 45-70 TC barrel, and have it fitted for a breach plug, than getting my factory Savage barrel rigged for an Encore frame. A Pac-Nor barrel would likely be much more worth doing.
How is the hooky gizmo attached to the Encore barrel? Silver solder? Boarhog

I don't know??? A 21 inch barrel would need fast powders or a duplex though to get up to longer barrel speed.

My buldged barrel is already 21 inches and after cutting out the bulge I could only get 17 inches or so,,, It would make a better pistol barrel,,,, be awesome on a savage striker cut down to 14 inches or so

Guys there's a guy in Oregon who lines used barrels. It would seem you could drill out a 45 to a 50, assuming the barrel steel is still ok. Iam sure they could tell you, most bulges are a few thousands. I think it cost $150 or so and you wouldn't have to rechamber going from 45 to 50, Ray l

As Al indicated, that "pivot" block is tig welded to the barrel. Richard

take a look at I think D&T custom.I think he makes what he calls "stub" that he welds onto just about any barrel...Pete
