Years ago had briley chokes put in my Ithaca Mag 10 and like the job very much. Now want to get my old 870 Wingmaster, mid 70s era 30" VR straight full choke, circumsized to 23-25" and screw in chokes fitted. Seems about the only aftermarket chokes to fit are the "Briley" thinwall as the older barrels are too thin for regular remchokes to be threaded. Anybody have any "Briley" experience with this in their 870 or other older pump gun? Yes I like the job they did on my Mag 10 but never hurts to ask what experience anybody else has had. Thanks, Bob

10ga, You're correct, the Rem chokes won't fit an older 870,but Win-Chokes will. I've installed them with a reamer and tap from Clymer. I've put thousands of rounds through my barrels. Check out the Clymer catalog or try Brownells. I think they carry the Win-Choke reamers and tools.

10ga, I bought an 870 wingmaster used in 1980. Very thin non ventalated rib barrell. The term then was to have it sleaved. Charles Baltz in Ashlend Va did it and used Briley Chokes. With 2 3/4 " fed prem 00 buck, I put all 12 pellets in a 14" baby moon hubcap at 40 yrds. That was 28 yrs ago and after many hundreds of shots Things changed. I called Briley and ask them if it was possible to shoot a Briley choke out. He said no and send it to him and he would check it out. Within 6 days I had a new choke and instructions that if this one did not shoot good, return it and they would send me one a couple of thousandths bigger or smaller until I was happy. Call me if ya still have my # if not pm me and we'll talk. IMHO you cannot beat Briley, Rusty

Without having a barrel in front of me to measure, I think by cutting the barrel back you will gain wall thickness. You might be able to have regular chokes installed.
Briley said that they'd have to cut my Nikko Golden Eagle O/U barrels back 2" to install their chokes. I passed and left it alone.
I have a complete double set of their extended choke tubes for my Browning Citori O/U and love them. With the I/C choke, I can smoke birds at 25-30 yds if centered. The core density of the pattern is amazing for an I/C choke.

Briley did a semi-auto 20 ga SKB XL900 for me a few years ago since the barrel was so thin. I got my choice of 3 chokes for around $190 shipped. They sent me a paper with a number and told me if I wanted any more choke tubes to use the number so they knew how to make it. The chokes are very slim in design. Briley was the only company that would touch the job since the barrel was so thin. Mike
