any of you guys here into EBR's? (evil black rifles) I was playing with "shorty" my DPMS M4 yesterday before the big blast of winter hit, just a bucket of fun rolling coffee cans around in the field with 30rd mags.

sort of, just got my first. A rock river coyote carbine that was a lemon from the start. It's a hybrid ebr/varminter. Here's details I posted somewhere else.
I got a lemon rock river coyote about a month ago. Supposed to be a 3/4moa gun, out of a dozen different loads best 5 shot group I got was over 1.5". Most were over 3". Something is wrong with the trigger, it doesn't always reset for the second shot. Sometimes pushing the trigger foward helps it reset, sometimes turning the safety on and off helps it. The flash hider was stuck, and it jammed 4 times in 200 rounds. The bottom of the bolt looks like its been hit with a bench grinder to get it to fit inside the bolt carrier. I think they(rra, and probably every other manufacturer) are in a mad rush to get orders out and have completlely bypassed the quality control department. I sent it back, who knows when I'll see it again.
I hope I love it when it comes back. Feels like a perfect coyote gun, just not built right.

Hossdaniels: Quality control issues are not necessarily a new thing. I shot the original AR type gun, the M-16 in the very early 1970s when I was in the Army. The rifle I was issued had a great deal of prior use. It regularly did not function well. I had it apart more than together it seemed like. I think I was beyond the time when they had a powder issue but certainly mine had issues. It seems after 40 years of modifications and tweaking they have a solid platform now, the 6.8mm I could see as having some advantages in the military however. The ARs in the civilian world have alot to offer. The lower receiver is a platform for many things even including a crossbow now. I do not have an AR but enjoy reading about them and will follow this topic.

Slip a JARD trigger in to them and step back. Have put in 3 of their 2lbs triggers and after adjustments I am very happy. With out exaggeration these rifles will compete with my bolt guns. I use them almost exclusively for varmints.

Guy I shoot against at the club, he has a RRA Predator, his only load is a 55gr Nosler BT and 25gr-ish of Benchmark (book load from Hogdon anyway), very very accurate. I know his has a 2 stage RRA trigger, gun has never had a hiccup anytime I've been around him. I need to put something together to keep up to him someday. I also have a DPMS 300 RSAUM named "panther" (I name all my guns) Wears a Jewel trigger, 24" barrel, JP brake, and a old 20x Super Sniper scope. This thing is boring accurate so far with Matchkings and H4350 powder and will keep up with any bolt guns I own. I'll have to figure out how to post pics of a couple of 500yd targets I shot last summer, very impressive so far.

I have one of the Colt AR15- CAR. Great to shoot for a short barrel and fun to just play with. As of last year it was the only rifle I owned that had not been used for deer hunting. With a 70 gr bullet it did the trick just fine on a 8 point buck.

A lot of the problems with aftermarket ARs is QC. Cheap parts have flooded the market. If you search for parts always look for "mil-spec" (of course they can just be saying that) which will cost more. Big difference though, for example a mil-spec bolthead will be shot peened and magnafluxed, about the same with the carrier. Fit and finish has QC standards far above commercial grade.
As far as my AR, it has a horse on the side and while I paid 1/3 more then most other brands, just pulling the bolt back will tell you it is far above most other brands.

I'm pretty partial to my AR with a horse picture and 3-sided handguard. Scope has a horse on it too.
