The first of the year I had bought a ruger 243 varmit.Wanting to try the heavy bullets because it has a straight 9 twist. The berger 105's wouldn't shoot too good but the 105 a-max shot less than an inch out to 300 yds.
The 19th found me in my tower blind 30 minutes before daylight.Saw nothing untill 8 o'clock when 5 does came across the power line. They were moving pretty fast but I got on the third one at 80yds and heard it crash in the woods.
I am sitting there and something catches my eye in the woods at 9:00 am,first thought it was a squirrel but when I got my scope up I could see small parts of a deer. Could see it racking the leaves and figure it was a buck.
Now I am looking through a hole about the size of a grapefruit, from my stand the hole was 70 yds according to my range finder.
After about 30 minutes I could make out it laying down.I got my grunt tube out and grunted a couple of times, could see him raise his head but went back down again fast.
Now I have had my eye glued to a 8 power scope for allmost 45 minutes.
I grunted again and he raised his head up and I could make out his ear and a small part of the base of his horns. The bases looked big through the scope so I decide to try and take him.
I aimed just to the right of his ear and shot.you can see where the bullet hit.
I sit there till 10 am before getting down because it is one of our club rules.
When I got to him he was laying beside the doe I shot at 8am,looked like he had pulled some hair out of her back.
I couldn't believe that I had made the shot so got on the radio for one of my brothers and another club member to see it.
The first pic is from my blind to the tree, and the second is from the edge of the woods to the tree and the hole I shot through.
The deer was 40 yds on past the tree where the white circle is.
I didn't have my camera with me then so I came back and took these pic's,we had allready took the doe out.
