I decided to use my ole 270 during the week long rifle season this year. Since I got my Savage ML a few years ago it's been sitting it out during the hunting season. I could only hunt 2 days so I took this little basket rack buck late on the last day. I'm going to run some of him through the pressure canner and the rest through a new smoker I just finished building...The .270 did it's job as always...225yds / 60gns H4831 / 130gn Hornady Interlock DRT......Now the wait for the ML season Zen

As I said earlier Zen nothin wrong with that deer. You did well considering where you had to hunt at . Sounded like to me there was a lot of orange around. I might not have stayed around as long as you did. Too bad about the Harrison thing and Your right about the blowin smoke thing. There are some good deer up there. Enjoy the venison. Wayles

A lot of guns and cartridges have come and gone but it is hard to beat the old 270. It still performs as good as ever. All the bucks can't be monsters. He'll taste good.

That load is almost identical to mine! I used a modified OCW method and found from 59.3 to 60.4 loads grouped together sub moa. I think that Hornady 130 SP has a lot to do with it, I have tried others but out of my gun- it is king. older .270 win-Rem 700 Mntn Rifle.
