With my post about my conversion I've had several PMs about cost so here it is for analysis. 1. TC 45-70 barrel from Natchez less $50 rebate from TC $214+- 2. Breech plug, MLII hex head from Randy Wakeman, $40+- 3. SMI bp installation, If I remember correctly $110 4. Sundry shipping etc $30
So I have +- $390 in the whole barrel. The barrel is 24" sporter with 1/20 twist. Of course I did it piecemeal and not in one jag. It is a light rig. With that Encore action, tupperware stock/forearm and sporter barrel it's short too. 38" I'm not counting the cost of the scope base or limbsaver recoilpad or folding ramrod from Mack. My guess is that SMI can do a custom barrel for close to+- what I have in this one. With the light weight I'd bet she'd be a bi#%^ to really shoot 45-70 full power ammo in. I haven't wrung it out yet with full power slower powder loads but did try some 4198 and got the awsome muzzle flash. See post re same. If anyone has any other questions feel free to post or PM me. Best to all, Bob
