:)5-6 years ago a cold snap hit the nation. It got to a little below zero here in Arkansas and colder north of here. A # of us shooting 10/60 VV-110/120/250XTP/shortMMP found that our velocities dropped from 2720'/sec to <2000'/sec at zeroish temps. That very accurate, "perfect", duplex instantly fell out of favor. RB developed the 14/61 duplex that replaced it. With the current cold temps over much of the nation, this would be a good time to check you load's velocity.

I will be shooting the .40 Saturday if my 30mm rings will show before then. I'm weighing powder this evening. The 14/61 may not be a bad idea - different powders of course-

Steve, I would like to help you out but I have committed myself to do some insulation testing this coming Saturday. I will be in a duck blind in 7 degree weather. Saturday also start our late deer season but I have already tagged out. I guess my 50 caliber dinosaur will still Get-R-Done for me. ;D

I would like to help you out This isn't to help me out; rather, a suggestion to check your own loads if they haven't already been tested at this cold of a temperature. Some people will be surprised. Some single powder loads may not even go off.

sw i think it will be about size of the powder load and the intended pressure. my load of aa 2015 at 72.6 grains goes off just as good at 0 degrees as it does at 85 degrees. also i might mention that my sabotless load of 65 grains of h 322 and a 275 be does so just as well and they dont fit my bore real tight. just my 2 cents. sb

I tried 63gr last time and the group and velocity/pressure was not what the gun wanted. How does that load group for you and what speed are you getting? I know you will probably be faster than what I get due to the longer barrel but just curious. Thanks

hey dave w well its been averaging about 2635 fps, which when you think about it. a 275 grain bullet moving at that velocity-look out lions and tigers and bears oh my!!! lol sb
oh and it shoots at about and inch to and inch and a quarter

I'd be interested in the velocity loss temp wise.
