My sister gave me a John Wayne commerative rifle. She lives in another State. What is the best way to ship and must if first go through my local gunshop? Thanks

Since it is a interstate shipment/transfer it has to go thru a FFL. IIRC She can ship it to the FFL of your choice but a 4473 has to be filled out for you to take possession.
How many guns travel over state lines illegally may never be known. A guy at one of my customers went back to visit the family homestead in KY and bought a $35 single shot shotgun at a local gunshow. Coming back to his home in Ohio he gets pulled over for speeding and gets on the bad side of the LEO and they search the car find the shotgun and ask about it. The dummy tells them the truth and all of a sudden he is a gun trafficker, next step down from a terrorist. After sitting the night at the police station and talking to the ATF. I think they realize it was a case of simple stupidity and didn't press Federal charges, just put the fear of God in him. Of course he never got the gun back.
We have a couple of local collages and NYC gang members come down here and offer $100 for students to make a straw purchase. For a collage student that's a weekend of partying. The guns get hauled back to NYC and get recovered during a crime. Of course the NY officials instead of pressing the ATF and local officals prosecuting the buyer (which always seems to be a minority and that would be profiling), decide to sue the local gun stores.
