With all these hand lapped Pacnors surfacing, what is the proper way to break the barrel in if shooting sabots? If shooting lead or copper bullets I can see where the break in procedures might do something but with sabots I don't really get it! Could someone please explain this to me! Thanks Rex

Rex, Good question I'm very Interested learning myself. I've heard so many ways to break in a barrel. Is there one really correct way or are there a lot of methods? All the ones I heard were for c/f now that we can easily fire sabot and as they say bare foot will it make a differance? Jon

I don't think there would be a break in for a barrel shooting sabots since plastic is the only thing touching the barrel.

:)there is no reason to break in a custom lapped barrel to shoot sabots.i have never did anything special to any of my pac-nors beside a good cleaning at first then shoot the heck out of them.

:)jon i shot my .40 sabotless 75 shots in a row without any swabbing or cleaning then i filled the bore with wipe out foam cleaner and let it sit for 24 hours.when i went to dry patch it out the next day i expected the first few patches to come out blue like it does with my centerfires.well to my surprise there was no blue.so i would say no break in is required either way.shoot and enjoy.

Jon........the only thing I break in on a custom barrel is the leade angle on centerfires. There could be a little metal sheared off from the reamer. I just short stroke a patch with a little 500 grit lapping compound. Not the whole bore. But since there is not chamber and leade on a ML, no lapping is necessary. You can't expect a soft copper jacket to do more than the technition at the factory using a Lead Lap with silicone carbide or diamond lapping compound? Thats what you are paying the big bucks for. I did nothing to break in my .45 for sabotless shooting and am completely satisfied with its performance.
