A good day was had by Herman and myself with the .45's. I'm sure Herman will post his results, but needles to say, "we both done good!"
Today, both Herman and I shot some bullets Chuck 41 was gracious enough to send me for testing. The intent was to shoot them at longer than 100 yards. These were those bullets he had pictured on another post??? .410 Remington's and XTP's that he sized down to .400 and then pointed. I shot two fie shot groups each at 100 yards with 62 gr. of H-4198. Based on the results, I could not see shooting them at 200. Herman got a fairly decent group which I hope he will show also. On my target, they are groups one and two.
Group three started out looking real good for the first three shots.........then we were BSing for a while before getting back to shooting. Mysteriously, shots 4 and 5 went a little high and to the right but were tight together so I had a "three and two group!" Wondering if I was to shoot a sixth shot would it land with 4 & 5 or go back to the 1,2 and 3 group? Well, it went right in between for a 6 shot `1.3" This was with the 200 gr. XTP. Thinking I could do better with the SST, I fired group #4 (same duplex) Boy that that "eat the bird!" Really surprised me!
The fifth group is where the real magic occurred. I had shot this duplex on a number of other occasions getting sub-MOA groups. Actually a 1.027 (almost sub), followed by a 3.5" (at 300) again, almost sub) and a .865" at 100; this was back in October. Two weeks ago a .815". Then another almost sub. 2.2" at 200 yards .
Today the group started out with one dead center in the orange dot followed by two more in a group that subsequently measured .396". Not wanting to mess up a "good looking group?", I opted to fire shots four and five on the adjacent target. Too bad, as they would have made a pretty five shot group of .600"
I immediately went to 300 yards (had to use one of Herman's targets I did not set up there due to the wind. The first three went into 4.7".......We saw one that just creased the side of the frame a few inches to the right and the fifth was off the paper. Herman was also shooting at 300 and since were missing shots , we took a walk up to the target. Boy, in between the 100 and 200 yard berms, there was quite a wind blowing which neither of us saw. I will be shooting this load again at 300 when the conditions are better.
That 100 yard group is probably one of my best so far with the .45
