Here I thought we had it bad when we had it mild compared to the area that SW is in. This ice storm was different from most because the ground was warm enough to prevent a large ice buildup there. Above ground it was freezing rain that simply become so heavy that trees were uprooted and power line poles snapped off. This too shall pass with time.

I agree it will pass with time and become a memory of the 2009 Ice Storm. Many of us feel save in our homes and never consider such an incident invading our lives. Most feel so strongly about this that they never even consider any small preparation to accommodate for such an event. Today we have such advanced weather technology that can forewarn us most times of a pending storm approaching that can be severe. For us up here it was the winter of 77 that is not easily forgotten.
