After rotator cuff surgery on my shooting shoulder on 10/22/09, I have finally gotten back to banging away with the .45 PN! Today found Herman, our friend Bill and my self at the range "loaded or bear ;D" I brought my 6mmBRX 600 yd. target rifle but never fired it! I got shooting the PN and the BRX stayed in its case. The weather today was cloudy with a bit of occasional sunlight. Temperatures went from about 15* up to 28* with a little breeze. You will note that the first four groups were shot with a Duplex consisting of 15 gr. of V V N-110 under 55 gr. of H-322. The fifth and last group was shot substituting 5744 for H-322. The second group was fired using a new (to me and Herman) bullet. Its the 175 gr. Knight (Barnes) Hot Shot. Boarhog was kind enough to send me ten to try. I shot five and gave Herman five to try (Herman shot an A _ _ Kickin' group!! He can tell you about it. Anyway, they shot pretty good and you can see the velocity increase over the 200 gr. bullets. I was a little disappointed on the last groups where I used 5744 instead of N-110. (200 gr. FTX sabotless) The velocity dropped almost 200 fps which I don't understand. Herman was shooting the same 15/55 110/322 and getting about 100 fps more velocity with his 25" barrel over my 23" barrel. All in all, H-322 in my gun is good for about 200 fps less then when using N-130. I cut back to the 322 in view of my shoulder surgery. I feel however, that it will take the N-130 on the lead sled with no problem Richard All shooting at 100 yards

Richard
Good to see you back in action. Now my "Richards Test Results" file can grow again.
Unless I overlooked something I seem to miss the yardage reference that I'm accustomed to seeing.

Glad you are back in the game Richard. I always enjoy reviewing your results. That barrel seems to shoot a wide variety of loads pretty darn well.

Fab range report as usual. Glad you had some good success with the 175 gr. Redhot bullets I sent. Guess I should have sent a few more. I would like to see how they do with your N-110/N-130 duplex. I started weighing up a few loads to try myself. Thought I would start with 10 N-110/50 N-130, then bump it to 10/53 of the same powders. I also weighed up a few 58 gr H-4198 loads to try with the 200 gr SST. Hoping weather lets me shoot some this weekend. Boarhog

Good report Richard as usual, good to see you are mended. If the weather lets up in a day or two I hope to get to the range myself.Im recovering from knee surgery so I dont have much to do for the next month but burn powder and maybe shoot a few squirrels. I plan to test a few of your duplex combos in the 28" soon......good shooting

You are right Ed! I modified the post! (100 yards) Don't I wish they were 300 yard groups! ;D Richard If those were 300yd groups I would be in danger of developing lock-jaw with my mouth in the open position. ;D Ed

Boarhog.......Actually, I wanted to shoot those 175's with the 17/56 N-110/N-130 duplex. I thought I had some in my box but had not . After shooting five I thought I would save five to shoot next week. Then I thought.....why not let Herman shoot three and see how he does with the 25" barrel. So he goes and shoots three that were touching.................I was still going to save two for next week..............But what the heck! Go ahead and shoot two more in that group Herman! And he did So, 23" barrel vs 25" barrel..........same 15/55 N-110/H-322 duplex......................Herman - 2800 fps Richard 2700 fps (approx) "50 fps per inch difference" The thing is, if Barnes does not make that 175, it is no sense in playing with them since Knight only had a limited number of them and they are out of business The 185's and 195's shoot just as well. Richard, When I ordered my 200 175 and 300 195 gr Redhots, Knight still had about 7500, and over 14,000 of the 195 grain, in stock. They said they will not close the doors completely, but that is probably subject to change. It might be worth a call to them just to ask if they still have bullets available, if anyone has an interest in them. In my case, what I ordered should allow me enough testing to find good hunting loads, and leave enough left over to bag plenty o deer and hogs for the next few years. No doubt I'll gather more SSTs and some various lower cost .40 pistol bullets to play with. As it was, the 500 bullets I bought didn't miss $400.00 very far when shipping was added. Boarhog
