Its been a pretty good year for me so far. I was able to shoot a couple does early. Then I was able to get this guy on trail cam several times at different spots. I have prided myself on not taking bad shots and finding my deer even with the bow. Well, this year I shot a really nice buck. I did not give the effort I should of on trying to find him. I made what I thought was a bad shot, I left him alone to look for the next day and over night it rained. No trace of anything the next day. I didnt find the deer for about two weeks when I was moving the stand. I smelled him and followed the direction. He was about 80 yards in some honey suckle. So a time when I really want to feel excited, I am feeling a little disappointed too.

I would get those antlers even if I had to wear a mask before the squirrels got to them. Nice rack. I understand your feelings but things like that happen and if you hunt you are going to have to experience some bad with the good. Put it behind you and erase it with another kill.

that is a nice rack. I'm sorry to hear about you not finding it for 2 weeks but some times it happens. it happened to me with a doe but it was months later.

Things happen. I just recovered one this year that was taken 4 years ago. The thicket was burned and the head was found by the owner afterward. It's a little worse for the wear with rodent gnawing and weather but still was a nice rack to put outside on the cabin wall. Your taxidermist can provide you with another cape and do a mount if you'd like that with yours. Better luck in the future.
