72 gr H4198. Heavy recoil. About 2550 fps and accurate when I was shooting them back in the day. Index your sabots by getting two lands per petal. DO NOT substitute the supplied sabot. This will shoot thru any deer at any angle would you believe.

What is your go to load with factory rifle and barrel. (50 cal) My go to load in the past was 250FTX using 46gr of new 4759. All were one shot kills when placed into boiler room. With 4759 no longer available I'm looking at a replacement load wanting to use the 250 TEZ instead of 250FTX. Working on it.

I have shot the 290. A few years back, as I recall I just used the standard .50 caliber loads for the 300 grain bullets and it worked well.

43g of 5744 and the 290TEZ is an awesome deer round. I'm sure there are some more accurate but for under 200 yards it can't be beat. I have taken a couple of straight on shots to see if I could find the copper mushroom lodged in the rear area of a deer, but so far they all exit (fortunately and unfortunately!) I shot a nice 10 pt Tues. of this week... slightly quartering to me .. inside shoulder thru to the last rib. It was a bang-flop with a nice golf ball sized exit hole.

I'm not a Barnes fan or shooter, tried them was not impressed except in the Thor configuration. My go to for factory 50 is .458 bullets of 300 grains in black crush rib sabots. Favorite bullet is the Speer .458X300 grain FN. Over 4759. OK no 4759 then try VV-N110 or 5744 in heavier factory loadings. Lately I've been using Reloader 7 also. I still use my 50s as when I hunt public land I want DRT!!! Those big ole 45-70 bullets will lay them down PDQ. Reflects my experience and opinion, others will differ. 10ga

I use mostly 300 gr Remington .458 in black crush ribs 67 gr H4198 in my Savage 10 ML II. I've never recovered a bullet, they go through deer at all kinds of angles.
