I have been a long time reloader of rifle ammunition but never have loaded pistol or straight wall before. I cleaned and sized some 450 casings and then primed them, everything looked great there. Came up with a starting charge of lilgun and proceeded to load up some rounds. The bullet of choice I am using is Barnes 275 gr tsx.451 for the bushmaster. So here’s where I came into problems. I set the bullet in the case mouth and it just about fell in, it was that loose! How can that be when I sized the cases with the sizing die? Can I put a crimp on them and still shoot or should I pull the bullets and start over? I just know there should be some sort of neck tension there.

Have you put a caliper to your expander ball and make sure that it is the correct diameter? Did you set your die up correctly? Just starting at the beginning here.

I have not put calipers on the die yet. But I will. As far as the die setup I did that exactly like you would any other sizing die. Screw in die until it touches she’ll holder and then down a quarter turn to make press cam over.

Would .452 bullets offer any advantage?

The .452 bullets would definitely load tighter in the case for sure but I wanted the Barnes solid copper tsx. I do have hornady factory loads but I’m going to be pushing these a little faster than factory ammo. I’ve heard a lot of negative results from people shooting the factory ftx loads and bullets coming apart and losing the copper jacket. I’m loading for my bolt gun, it’s a 700rem short action pgt bolt Shilen select 16 twist 22” barrel. Grayboe stock and hs precision bottom metal. The gun shoots great but I’d like to see what it can do with some hotter hand loads.

Try Bear Creek ballistics, I reload their copper 245 for my 460 riffle same size bullets, and have had great results. They have bullets not listed on their website.

I’ve been on their website a few times and seen their ammo listed for bolt guns as well as their muzzleloader bullets.
