I have a boyds laminate stock on a knight sml muzzleloader. To me the length of pull is to long.I barely am able to get my finger tip on the trigger.I have to pull the rifle closer and deeper in my shoulder than I like.Could I cut off about an inch of the stock to make it a good fit for me?I didn't know if it would splinter if I tried it.

I have cut other laminate stocks (not a Boyd) and put painters tape on the area I wanted to cut and used a Forster or Freud high quality blade on a radial arm saw and had no splintering or damage whatsoever. Some scribe a cut line and that may help a bit also but never had to do that. Really did not even need to sand the edge but again a very sharp high quality saw blade helped.

I had the same problem. I used a cutoff saw with a sharp blade and had no problem. Installed another pad to fir and problem solved.

Called a friend that works in wood and he brought up a ''hog nose" saw with a real fine tooth blade and i marked off the length I thought would be suffient and wrapped it in painters tape.Wrapped a towel around the stock and put it in a vise.He started to cut the stock and in less than a minute he was finished. One of the straightess and smoothest cuts I have ever seen and felt.I put the pad back on and now instead of just having the tip of my finger on the trigger I now can put the center of my finger on it.I feel I have better control.Right before the first joint, not the center of the whole finger. Thanks for the info.
