Someone posted instructions and pictures a couple of years ago on how to cut 308 brass for a petes breech plug. Does anyone remember this. I am a newbie to smokeless JESS

It's a mystery to me why every SML builder seems to use their own proprietary ignition system, instead of using a standard like Rem UML. I don't know about a Pete's, but I just made a bunch of cases for Rem UML for someone who just bought a GunWerks (not smokeless) ML. GunWerks does use the Rem UML standard, which is based on a .308 case. You can also use 30-06, 270, 25-06 or anything you have around with the same head. After cutting to length, group them by case head thickness, as it's the distance between the outside and inside of the case head that sets your headspace with these ignition systems. You cut & trim the cases to 1.096". You can cut them down by chucking them in a lathe and using a pipe tubing cutter, as shown in Richard Franklin's excellent build video, or you can use a Harbor Freight or Amazon Mini Cutoff Saw. I use the saw. It works extremely well for cutting down cases. I got it way back when 300 BLK hit the scene and there was very little factory brass available, so people made the brass by chopping down 5.56mm cases. I've cut off hundreds of cases with the original blade that came with it. This is the HF version: www.harborfreight.com/2-in-mini-bench-top-cut-off-saw-62136.htmlTo use it, just make a channel in a 3/4 x 3/4 x 5" or so piece of aluminum bar stock. Make a stop in the channel, clamp the bar into the saw, then just feed the brass in and chop it off. Finish it in a standard case trimmer. Works great. Or you can get it from Amazon with a Squirrel Daddy case-cutting channel jig already made for you: www.amazon.com/Cut-off-Cutting-Plastic-Crafts-Benchtop/dp/B088F7LK1PThe channel/jig I got when I got mine was called the Reloadimizer, but they don't seem to be available any more.

That RUM system is a PITA.
Its a carbon copy with nothing more than an increase in hardness and a thread pitch change from the Ultimate Firearms Inc. BP Xpress.
The work is completely unnecessary where other better systems are available, especially other systems that will ignite BH209 properly.
Case length doesn't affect head space in any way. Only the case head thickness, which varies over .020" making it impossible to have proper head spacing.
