Very low peak pressure. Bad choice for a 250gr bullet in a 50cal. Might work as a main in duplex load? Something like 10gr N110/55gr H4198?

I have found that 4198 in IMR or H to be not dependable in a 50 with anything less than 300 grain TIGHT LOADING saboted boolits. 4198 is great in my 45s but I am using ReL 7 in my 50s now. I use mostly 300X458 bullets and I aint risking a FTF on deer. The 325 grain FTX Hornady and heavier give good ignition with 4198 but for 300 and under I suggest using a duplex with suitable ignition powder. This reflects my experience and opinion. Others will differ. 10

Yeah, if i was going to use 4198 as a single it would more than likely be with a 325gr-350gr bullet. Re7 is great with a 300gr even for mildish loads. Goes boom every time. 4198 and 300gr is for da big boomas which i dont find pleasant to shoot.

I have had my sml 10 ml2 for 15 years and always used 250 grain shockwave with 67 grains of h4198 and always had good accuracy, no misfires

I would disagree. I have shot 250 gr bullets at 2,800 fps at 80 gr H4198 in several seasons with no ignitions issues at all in very low temps. Maybe a tight fit is a factor. In many years I have always wondered about the folks having issues with H4198 as a single. Not one issue.

I now use a 325 ftx and 70 gr H4198 and still great results. Your mileage may vary. 15 years track record in north east and I am confident.
