When mentioning using a drill bit (5/32" I believe) does it mean to unscrew the vent liner and clean the thread area or flame channel? I know this is a silly question but seems like the bit could mess the vent liner threads up. Ive been toying with upgrading to a bp that uses a hex nut rather than 4 notches. Does anyone make a factory replacement BP that uses the tungsten bushing or is there a better/harder vent liner being made?

If the price seems a little stiff, you will save $$$ over time in not having to replace vent liners. Some of my past loads would eat up vent liners in less than a couple dozen shots!
The drill bit goes into the flame channel while leaving the vent liner in so that it does not destroy the threads. If there is too much carbon build up in the flame channel, you may need to start out with a smaller drill bit and work up to the 5/32 bit.

I leave the vent in when using the bit. Then i take the vent out and use a SS gas port brush. ProShot sells a 2 brush set cheap. The brush gets out anything the bit missed and cleans the threads. Replace the vent with a tiny dab of antisieze. When going to a bushing plug you leave the bushing in. Never remove it until it needs replacing. Just remove the lock ring and clean the threads with the port brush. When its clean add a tiny dab of antisieze and replace the lock ring.

BTW, Lukes plug might be tight for your primer pocket. Only takes a couple minutes to polish it up for a custom fit. Even the OEM plugs primer pocket i got last time was tight so dont freak out. Better to have them too tight than too loose. I prefer them shimmed to crush the primer a few 1000ths myself but thats another topic.

I remove the vent before running a 5/32 bit from the primer side. The 5/32 bit is .003" smaller than the flame channel. The flame channel size is what is required to tap a 10/32 thread. In all the years I've done this there has never been any damaged vent thread issue. But what ever way you are comfortable with stick with it.

Always drilled from the primer end with the vent out and ran a 10/32 tap to clean the threads.

Place emphases on clean threads so that the vent head properly seats on it's 82-degree mated surface on the BP. This is what takes the impact from bore pressure.

I'm confused. How do u use a drill bit and leave the vent liner in? Is there supposed to be a 5/32 hole all the way through the plug. If so then mone is really stopped up.

The smallest diameter hole running through BP, is actually .159". But I recommend staying with the 5/32" drill .156" for carbon removal starting from the primer side. Sounds like you really have a lot of carbon fouling to remove. Starting with a smaller drill size might make your chore easier. Ed

I am still shooting the barnes 195 with a sabot and 4198, how long would the bushing last with the aforementioned plug?.
