Recently a friend approached me for help in repairing the eyelet on his aluminum boat. After examining it I agreed it needed attention. Now he didn’t want any new screw holes in the hull so the only option was reinforcing the original eyelet. Now by doing this the width of the eyelet would be bigger not allowing the original tow hook to pass through properly. So an additional link would then need to be employed. My friend said no problem with this idea. Okay I went about constructing the SS plates. The project turned out well. My friend is happy and I’m happy with another successful project. After installation my friend needs to get some proper length SS screws, lock washers and nuts. Oh yeah, a SS link. At the moment I feel a little disappointment now that the project list is completed and now am an unemployed Tinker, chuckle. Ed

Now your friend need to take you fishing in that boat Ah, he doesn't owe me anything. This new friend happens to now be living with a best friend (she) who I garden with. She was also happy I helped her man out like I did for her deceased husband who was also a best friend when he was alive. Sort of one big family affair, chuckle. As for fishing I have an open seat to join another friend fishing on Lake Erie for Pickerel. Did numerous welding repairs on his boat trailer and a few other items. I never charged any monies and would not accept any for work I did. The only form of gratuity I would accept is something shared in return. I would say I've always gotten good shares in return over the years. Ed

Ed, to be clear, I have friends in Ontario who refer to walleye as pickerel. In NY, we have lots of chain pickerel which are closely related to the northern pike (same family) but smaller. We also have walleye. Since you are talking about Lake Erie are you talking about walleye? I hear the walleye fishing is really good on Erie this year.

Some people call them Pickerel and others call them Walleye but still the same fish being referenced. Here we have a two tier fishing license. Regular License allows a full limit whereas a Conservative License allows you only a half limit. Now when you turn 65 you automatically are given a free license credit of full limit. So now I don't need to purchase a fishing license anymore, chuckle. Fishing was decent this year on Lake Erie but Pickerel move around in large schools so if you are out there when the school passes your area the action gets hot. Where I fish is the East end of Lake Erie using down riggers and worm harnesses with a slow troll.

Ed you did put a zinc tab on it? Being stainless against aluminum it will oxidation will occur quickly Appreciate your heads up for possible galvanic reaction. The aluminum will have a good coat of paint to prevent direct contact except for the screw holes. Will pop a screw every so often to check for possible oxidization occurring. The stainless plates are not 400 series stainless which would definitely be a problem because of carbon content. Again thanks for your concern. Ed

No problem just thought I put it out there. It’s a real nice repair just was looking at things that but me before.
Also thank you for the advice earlier. That’s to all you gentlemen that offered advice and words of encouragement
