Hello! New to smokeless Muzzleloaders and just picked up a Encore Bergara 45-70 full bull with asg 209 plug from the classifieds! I have a couple questions! The seller said they were shooting 55 gr of imr 4198 and 250 fury startip with light blue sabot with holes touching at 100! Would there be a difference in using H4198 vs the IMR 4198? Also what 209 primers do you recommend?
I’ve also thought about trying sabotless! Have you guys had good results going sabotless in the 45-70 conversions? What load would you recommend? 250 grain or 275 grain bullet? Thanks

Yes, sabotless is way to go. Fed209A primer. 275gr Arrowhead X-serides or XLD usually shoot good. You'll also want to run a veggie wad (ASG051). H4198 is easier to ignite than I4198, so go with the H.

I love the first recipe, killed alot of deer with that load. Just remember when practicing, take five minutes between shots if above 45 degrees.FEd 209A primers, I also like H4198.

Going to try sabotless! Ordered the swinglock die and everything! Went with the 275 gr x-series bullets! How many grains of H4198 should I use that will be safe?

I shoot a Encore 45-70 Bergara conversion with the Savage plug and vent liners. I use a duplex of 50/7 H4198/IMR4759 With 195grn Barnes and blue crushed sabots.
Easy to load, shoots 1" groups and drops deer right now. I keep thinking about upgrading, but this thing just shoots so good. I think I'd go to a .40cal and shoot these Barnes.
Good luck with your build.

I haven’t gotten to shot it yet but I did pick up some federal 209A primers and when I put them in, without firing, I can’t even get them out with my fingers! Is this normal? I put a Winchester primer in it and they come right out! The plug that’s in it is a asg savage 209 with the bushing

I can't get any primers out by hand. I keep a primer removal tool handy.
