Long time member but it's been a while since I have posted here. I have a question about the LRMP ignition system vs the good ole 209 plug. At 65 years young I want to build one more (I've said this before) SML. I can see the need for the LRMP system when building off of a rifle action but when using a 700 ML action is there a clear advantage? Need help answering this question so I can finish my parts list. Thanks.

I have the LRMP (PR Bullet) system on a 10MLII and 209 on a Rem700ML. Many caution that one should shoot neither with hot rod loads since there is no locking lugs for a double safety factor in the event threads on the BP fail. I keep loads under 45,000psi which allows speeds in the 2800fps range using 275gr bullets. I do duplex, but only for reasons of accuracy and ignition.
At least with these two rifles, I have not experienced an advantage of one system over the other.
My advice though, is make sure to get tungsten carbide bushing plugs and forget worries about how big the hole is getting with a few shots in the vent liners!

Last time I looked, these images weren't blurry, this a photo bucket thing now? This post by Bestill showed 209 and LRMP side by side with breech plugs having similar dimensions. Too bad the pics don't show, at least the discussion is good to read dougsmessageboards.proboards.com/thread/19785/ignition-test

There is no performance advantage in that type of action. Both need a larger volume flash channel to limit pressure on the module or 209 unless you have locking lugs. The only advantage is LRMP is easier on flash holes and build less carbon in the flash channel. When you move up to a lugged or steel brake action you can reduce the volume (shorter flame path) and increase the pressure.

Having both I prefer the LRMP in the 700ml action. You will get a better seal with less wear on your bolt retention screw. A crush fit is not required with the lrmp.

X2 on the retention screw wear. I will likely change my 700ML to LRMP one day to reduce the wear. The original screw burred up the bolt as well making it very stiff. I just had the Bolt Retention Screw develop a a burr on the Bolt Slot on one of my Rem 700 MLS’s this past Friday 13th! Luckily I had a backup ready for opening day & managed to get my Buck on Sunday That Bolt Retention Screw needs well lubricated & replaced periodically.
